At least our politicians just take it out of our paychecks and say “It’s for the kids!”.

Actually most of the depositors in Cyprus are Russian oligarchs trying to avoid taxes in Russia. Cyprus is the Med’s version of Cayman Islands.

oh so the roughly 60k British subjects that will lose huge sums of money are really Russian? FYI Russia has some of the lowest tax rates in the world why do you think there are French millionaires moving there to get away from taxes?

Everything has to come back to Bush, for you, doesn’t it? Last I checked, no American President has anything to do with this issue. Go troll somewhere else.

If it works, it is a small price to pay for fiscal accountability.

Shocking! Even more surprising is that her view isn’t so different from Tom Toles. It’s not so simple as either one of the cartoons imply though. There is that Russian money thing (not so much how many depositors as how much). EU member states do not want to spend their money bailing out rich Russians (oh, and a few Britts) who may have their money there to avoid taxes at home and in some cases laundering criminal gains. Then there is the fact that it was the Cypriot Government who suggested this way of raising funds to save their banking system who’s problems come in large part from involvement with Greek banks… and last I heard, they unanimously voted down the law to actually grab the money.

Why can’t the EU just give about a trillion dollars to the banks? That should take care of the problem….worked here in the States……

    “Maroons abound”.
I thought maroon was maroon. What does color have to do with it anyway?
Pay 10% or lose everything. Which is best? The people with small accounts would not be affected.

Yeah, I’m sure all those Cypriot citizens demonstrating against this statist theft were Russian oligarchs and mobsters.

hate to burst bubble but UHC has been around since 60’s, never mind that you could simply treat private healthcare as taxing on your wealth.

That or the hospital bill that drives you to bankrupsy because you didn’t have health care. which happens to account for up to 60% of all bankruptcies in the USA

Is UHC healthcare free, No. The Cost Per Household is a wooping 10k, that said the cost to the average american household combining government expense with the money doled out to the healthcare providers hits about 16k

As an FYI the Sun chain of newspapers and the Fraser Insitute are about as far right as you get in Canada
