It’s smaller than under Reagan, but hey, would would ever expect Lisa to know?

When Republicans were last in power, they really reduced the size of the government, didn’t they? I especially enjoyed the earmarks as far as the eye could see.

Why shouldn’t women see the life they are considering ending?

As for Big Gulps, just wait until Barry-Care kicks in. All kinds of activities will be curbed or taxed to death under the guise of “We know what you need better than you do” and “Since we(the gov.) are helping to pay for your health care…..”

    Good times ahead.

The Dems are going to cut off wholesale access to sugar AND take limit the supply of exploding ammo AND enforce vehicular speed limits. Oh (wringing of hands) what will we poor freedom starved American citizens ever EVER do…??

    Relativity….such great stuff.

Yep, smaller than under Reagan, why the deficit is even getting smaller. Obama only plans to spend a trillion dollars more than we give him.

I don’t get you guys. Always falling back on things like Bush had a deficit too, or smaller government than Reagan or from the other half calling Obama Carter 2.

Now I am going to use one of your tactics. You do know that the president has no power over what is spent (LOL) for it is the House that must by law formulate and legislate all spending. The President’s budget proposal is merely a polite suggestion (hahahahahahah). OK (wiping tears now) so which congress since say…1977 …. has approved a budget , stuck to it, and NOT added to the debt?

Now I will tell you the answer if I must. But first, tell me if you you think having more of something is better than having less of it (all you first and second graders tag out here and let the adults (heheheheh) answer that one.

So Obama is spending less and yet is adding to the debt. And at an alarming rate. See, Bush had a small deficit up until his last year. No, he did not list the war in the budget but he still spent the money and so it ended up on the bottom line Now that last year was a doosie and set a benchmark for Obama. Why he could continue to deficit spend at an alarming rate and still be able to claim he reduced the “deficit”. So What? As long as there IS a deficit, he is not doing the right things.

So is planning to add 6 trillion dollars to the debt over 10 years a good thing?

Actually, the difference between peak civilian employment, Reagan/Obama, was 300,000 Highest under Reagan was 3.1 million and under Obama it was 2.8 million. This excludes census years. Amazingly, (I know. Shouldn’t use that word) it was lowest under Bush in 2007 at 2.695 million.

Good one Lisa. So true… We just got hit with 7800.00 due IRS. I’m 72, retired and decided to pick up a p/t job. Unfortunately, they didn’t take out taxes. We now pay on that, Social security, the one time a year mandatory withdrawal from IRA retirement,(mine lost 51% over the past 12 years) and a small 248.00 a month FL teacher retirement from a private school. Husband will be 72 soon and his 170.00 retirement from a major insurance company where he was in managements is also taxed. In GA we also have to pay taxes on our FL retirements mentioned above. We pay our own way and scale back when necessary. Big Gov sucks!

Apparently Lisa hasn’t checked any facts. Under Reagan, Bush the elder, and Bush the lesser the government grew more than at any time in the last forty years. Under Clinton and Obama the government has contracted without any help from the GOP. Time for the Grand Ole Party to be dumped on the ash heap of history.

In your first post here, you seem to extend what “they” should do far beyond the US borders. And your assertions are not universal truths. I have said a lot about repression (and worse) of women under sharia law, but without going to war, there’s not much we can do about it.

So yes I can easily live with myself in a world where women under sharia law are oppressed, and I do not support that oppression, but where I support a womans right to privacy and equality where I can have an effect, within the US borders.

and I am a devout believer that I have a right to breath air free of other schmucks tobacco smoke. While I live in NYC, I often am forced to walk through billows of smoke made in public by inconsiderate smokers. While I really don’t get bloombergs battle against the BIG CUP, i’d support illegalization of tobacco where I am FORCED to breath other peoples smoke.

Oh boo hoo. Your DNA is so weak that it can’t stand a little smoke that has already been filtered through another set of lungs? I’d be more concerned about whoever is holding that gun on you that FORCES you to go that way.

Since nothing gets taken away under Gov’t once implemented…AND Reagan hasn’t been in office for 25+ years…AND MANY more Gov’t laws and regulations and departments have been put in place SINCE Reagan….just HOW do you explain that Gov’t is (ha ha) smaller now that when Reagan was President???

this is what made me think you were extending beyond US borders
“but have not said a word about oppression of women under shia law, child slavery, forced marriages, oppression of the Tibetans, killing of coptic christians…”

Just a note: the ‘size" of government, is how many it employs. The COST of government, is how many contractors REPUBLICANS increased, the cost of pharmaceuticals for Medicare the REPUBLICANS increased, and the number of wars we fight, which REPUBLICANS have increased since the end of ’Nam, Grenada, Nicaragua (Reagan), Panama and Iraq I (GHW), Afghanistan and iraq “W”, and yes they did get some Democrats, under duress and threat, to vote for these idiot wars. It was “W” however who tried to hide the cost of the wars, while Obama “increased” the debt, by merely counting the money “W” was ACTUALLY SPENDING, well,in part, the trillions for future care of veterans, and replacement of infrastructure wasted on these wars, still isn’t actually counted.

like I keep saying. the democrats stood behind their president dubya in times of trouble. I would be nice, especially since the trouncing and mandate (easily by republican standards)Obama received in the last election, if the republicans would stand by their president.

however, in spite of the GOP intransigence, the American economy has always been shockingly resilient and is much better off that 4 years ago.
