That’s not a valid reason for reporting things that have not been confirmed. I don’t know where either CNN or Fox got its information that she was dead, but it was wrong and they shouldn’t have reported it. (She was reported awake and responding when she arrived at the ER.)
This propensity to report anything that they’ve “heard” is the media’s own doing. In fact, since they’re on 24/7, there should be LESS pressure to report it without confirmation, not more.
I agree with your statement that the media creates the “MUST” report immediately simply because they “CAN” report immediately. I think some cable news reporters and anchors should be required to attend a good journalism class or two, and I think some of them have no journalism education. It’s too bad.
