Hey, I agree with the conservatives (who, nonetheless, seemed to have no problem with the shades drawn in the Bush administration)!

Obama promised to conduct the conversation about health care on C-SPAN. That would have been a boon for open democracy. Where’s the transparency?

Let’s see, after an energy policy determined behind closed doors that shafted us all, a war based on false information, the “right” now wants cameras in toilets to make sure we see everything? Just go on line and pick your conspiracy, just don’t ask to see the writer’s GED. Most meetings and documents are also on line, but don’t bother going to the source, just whine.

TRAUMA: The fact is that Obama ran on a platform that included transparancy and “Change”. McCain didn’t, and Bush wasn’t on the ticket. I see “more of the same”.

church, if it’s more of the same, you should be happy! It’s the same as if McCain won or Bush never left.

WARD: You are misrepresenting what I’m saying. You said “why should Obama be transparent when Bush wasn’t.” My answer was because that’s what he ran on. Your answer again is “well Bush wasn’t so I should be happy” You want me to say again that that’s what Obama ran on?

As for “I should be happy”/”same as McCain”/”same as Bush”– that’s ridiculous. Obama’s “transparency” has nothing to do with what I think of his policies.

The question isn’t what I think of his campaign promise of transparency, because I didn’t support him or believe him. It’s what HIS supporters think of it. Obviously supporters like you don’t care, and yet again found another way to blame BOOOSH.

Let’s put it another way. If I say “Obama hasn’t disappointed me”, that doesn’t mean I like Obama. It means I always thought Obama would be a complete disaster, and as such is not disappointing me. Any Bush policy he continues is a pleasant surprise. Do you see the distinction?

As far as transparency specifically, some things need to be, some not so much. Obama has found it’s easy to bleep about it (and lots of other things) from the sideline, a lot tougher when you’re the President. But he’ll never admit that.

For what it’s worth, I’m a thoughtful Obama supporter who is disappointed in his lack of transparency. I, nonetheless, do not find that his administration is a “disaster”, as you put it, Churchill. I recognize the complicated nature of things. I can support some of his policies and oppose others.

I also recognize that some things should be done in the light of day and others shouldn’t. I just believe that things like Cheney’s energy task force and the current health care deliberations should be open discussions.

Sorry Church, I knew I was misrepresenting what you meant. Just yanking your chain. No harm intended.

I guess it must be common with strong advocates of both political parties but the very first justification for a screw-up is nah nah nah you did it too. dtroutma is a particular offender. Whenever Obama errs the only justification is well Bush did it too. Usually when you hit age 10 that childish retort stops.

CDW: Hey, no problem. Humor is hard to imply when responding, especially when folks are heated. And this is a comics page!

FWIW, I’ve seen people on other forums use “/sarc off” at the end of statements to signify what they just posted was dripping with sarcasm. I’ve never seen it used here. Not sure if that even applies to your post anyway. As someone who works in TV, the key word is “inflection” Can’t get that here!

With very few exceptions, I basically like the posters on this site, and that includes those I disagree with. If we can all remember that we’re mostly all serious people with reasonable basis for our disagreements, we might just make the site all a better place to be.
