See Nicholas Kristof’s column in the NYT today. Puts the lie to a ot of that.

BTW, those side effects (once you change “elevated taxes” to “unpayable premiums and copays, and uncovered illnesses”) pretty much sounds like our current system.

    Ask your doctor about PrivaCare*

    * Side effects include delayed treatment, elevated surcharges, swelled CEO bank accounts, shortages of doctors, and in some cases….DEATH.

Can someone explain to me why Americans prefer to put their health care in the hands of insurance salesmen rather than doctors?

Can someone explain to me why Americans prefer to put their health care in the hands of government employees rather than competitive businessmen?

    Amtrak?
    TSA?
    IRS?

I mean, not examples of fine tuned government machines. But hey, we’ll get it right on healthcare.

Doc, stick to your side of the border, eh?

My health care should be in the hands of someone who cares about health. I’m open to government empolyees being more beauracratic than practical or efficient. But a competitive businessman is JUST AS BAD. If those are the only 2 options then you’ll steadily be confused/angry when people don’t pick the option YOU did.

You have not seen a shortage of doctors till Obama’s ignorant plan kicks in. As well as extra long waits for serious treatments. due to lack of pay to the Doctors and shortage of them (check out Canada for that one).

    Republicans hate America???
    Really? Your kidding right?
Republicans fight to protect America, democrats run and cry when we do. Example 9-11. Most democrats can not even justify us attacking Afghanistan.
Republicans want socialism out of the picture, democrats invite communism in with Obama.
Republicans HATE the GM take over, democrats love it.
Republicans HATE Obama’s health care system (do to overly government control and we all know the government can not run anything effectively), democrats think it is a must.
MOST Republicans hated the bank bailouts, you democrats is what got it passed.
If anyone hates America it is NOT republicans, it is you democrats who thinks Europe is the perfect little utopia and we need to , wait not need, HAVE to be just like them!

If you ask you would find out we are not happy with the current system, but we are all smart enough to know the government, especially Obama’s can not run it any better.
I believe if the government would have stayed out of it from day 1 it would be much, much better now.

Sure, it would cut down on border crashing from Mexico to get at our health care. And it would cut down on most of the world comming over here to get treatment. Plus it would be a big boom to those islands in the Atlantic where comident Doctors would flee to set up shop to avoid Obama care.

I have. Their health care is better than ours and my friends in Canada are quite happy with it. I was talking with one of my Canadian friends just last month about how he had an emergency that required “serious treatment” and was seen right away and got extremely good care.

The shortage of doctors in Canada is complex and cannot be pinned to “doctor pay” alone. It also has to do with the stupidity of reducing enrollment in medical schools as well as banning foreign-trained doctors from practicing in the country.

It has NOTHING to do with everyone getting healthcare and your strawman of “check out Canada” is hereby dismissed with a giggle.

And right now we have immediate care, ultra-low premiums, a surplus of providers, and we live forever? Why is the insurance monopoly so afraid of competition?

DrCanuck answers: well, why don’t you elect competent governments?

And daniel-san is quite correct. I’m Canadian, I’m thrilled with our system, and any problems are minor (to be blown out of proportion by American conservatives). I’ve lived and worked in the US for 9 years; Canada’s system is greatly superior.

And Write_Off is a goof; nothing in our system puts health care in the hands of government employees. Just doctors. Write him off.

I ditto many comments here, including:

    – no plan being looked at proposes giving government bureaucrats control over medical care, it’s about paying for care in a rational, reasonable way and extending access to 50 million uninsured

    – insurance bureaucrats control medical care and overrule physicians thousands of times every single day

    – I don’t get why anyone wants insurance accountants and pencil pushers to decide what medical care they’re entitled to and when and where they can get it! The insurer’s sole purpose is to increase profits by authorizing the least amount of medical care possible without getting sued

    Canuck, I see you appreciated my nickname for ROn, aka WOff;

Dr.Canuck replies: my poor, dear, confused edrush; what part of “universal” do you not understand? Under your present system, insurance bureaucrats decide if you get treatment or not. NO GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRAT will do so under universal health because you will be 100% covered for 100% of medical problems. No decisions. That’s what “universal” means. It will all be between you and your doctor.

According to him and the people he talks to they are preparing for death because of lack of treatment. He is getting treatment.

    DrCanuck
If you are correct in saying “NO GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRAT will do so under universal health because you will be 100% covered for 100% of medical problems. No decisions”
Currently with Medicaid you have to get permission from the government to go to a specialist and it is worse then a standard insurance company.

  25. DrCanuck

    DrCanuck said, 5 months ago

Sorry, THAT TIME it was a typo.

And to mytinytown, I was speaking of universal health in all industrialized and pre-industrialized nations, primarily Canada; certainly not Medicaid. No decisions, no permissions. Which is why ours is so much cheaper than yours; fewer bureaucratic salaries to pay (and lawyers and private eyes and advertising and lobbyists and stock dividends….)

^ forgot backbreaking tax rates for your Canadian welfare state didn’t you?..

Is fun to read the comments from Liberal Socialist Canadians trying to pull a fast one on naive Lefties that hang here…LOL

I’ve Got a family member that left Canada for the USA as soon as they had a chance for many reasons, among them low opportunity and high taxes, (and lousy weather),

She needed an operation, it was paid by the State, but she almost died waiting for it, the wait was so long that she left before having the second follow up operation she needed, She had it done here in the USA at a public county hospital.

Canada’s heath care is a disaster waiting to happen, (the same in Europe, ever seen a Brit with good teeth? wonder why?)…do a search and read countless articles about the horrors of Canadian health care, and then ask any Canadian how much taxes they pay to support their failed
welfare state and lousy health care service.

Even the Canadian supreme court said so!!!!!!!
