Lisa is of course referring to the GRAMM-Leach-Bliley act of 1999, which was indeed signed by Clinton, but was also voted for by John “The fundamentals of the economy are sound” McCain and co-sponsored by his “economic brain” Phil “Americans are whiners” Gramm.

Government oversight?
For starters ask Barney Frank in charge of ‘oversight’ as the Head of the House Financial Services under the ‘Do Nothing’ Pelosy reign for the last 2 years……

“I think the responsibility the Democrats have may rest more in resisting any efforts by Republicans in the Congress or by me when I was President to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.”

Gosh, I knew it couldn’t have been the Republicans’ fault! Nothing ever is!

Does this mean with a Republican Administration and full control of the Legislature the GOP sailed along for over six years clueless. Sounds like McCainonimics.

I must say… Clinton was a corporatist as well. It’s not entirely his fault, but he helped. W’s lack of any oversight over anything contributed more than all else.

Even if Clinton was responsible for it, it would have been Bush’s duty to cancel that plan as soon as he saw it wasn’t working. (Yeah, yeah, democrats have controlled the houses for the last two years, but there was six yeras before that.

It’s magic, I tell ya. Clinton kicked off the crisis with absolutely no input from the GOP-controlled Congress at the time. The crisis miraculously stopped in it’s tracks when Bush took over the White House and the GOP continued to control Congress. Then, as Bush stood helplessly by, the crisis started up again when the Dems took over Congress in ‘07. It’s MAGIC!

“‘Do Nothing’ Pelosy reign for the last 2 years……”
Why has everyone been saying “the last 2 years” for the last 6 months when it hasn’t even been 2 years yet?
It’s only been 1 year 9 months and these problems were coming to a head before they started 1 year and 9 months ago. Talk about fuzzy math.

Clinton left US taxpayer in the black with longest uninterrupted economic expansion in US history. Fannie and Freddie were working as they were supposed. Seven times did the rethuglicans vote against controls that would have checked this. Doesn’t anyone read the congressional record? Or they just pass around GOP lies, er, talking points. Lisa can draw but, she’s not informed politically.

It’s true that the Republicans should of got rid of the problem that the Democrats caused. Does this mean that the Republicans are worse than the Democrats though? The Democrat’s political correctness caused this problem not deregulation, and you guys want to criticize the Republicans for not stopping it? If they had you would all be crying racism. Damned if you do damned if you don’t.
Think about that.

Re: …. she’s not informed politically.
Sure she is, Don’t YOU listen to Rush L. , Bill O’., Ann C. hell, I’ll bet any Republican could show her how to blame anything on Clinton… the problems seem to stem from Republicans being content to let Republicans define the problem, the cause and the solution… why waste time on research when you can make it up as you go along.

There are no Democrats. There are no Republicans. There is only obedient fascist thugs march-stepping to the tune of the corporations and the Federal Reserve. Your entire lives, all you ever get is to choose from one of two hyenas for president, and a Congress filled with like-minded creatures who would kill for the position. Who’s running the show??? Follow the money….

It goes back further to the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 under Carter. All Clinton did was strengthen it.
“The Democrat’s political correctness caused this problem not deregulation,”
Great point TGS. I was actually saying the same thing in another cartoon.

TGS, Mach, Stew et al – the Community Reinvestment act is NOT responsible for this mess. Look it up:
google this community reinvestment act percentage foreclosures
I understand you may not like the law, but it is NOT at fault here.
