    @Woodroe

I’ve been seeing a lot of those theaters going out of business for lack of attendance lately.

They still have an old TV with some kind of rabbit ears which is now obsolete and not once have we seen Lio on a computer. What year is this supposed to be?

From the Oompa Loompa song (from the BOOK, not the movie!):

“The most important thing we’ve learned,
So far as children are concerned,
    Is never, NEVER, NEVER let
Them near your television set —
Or better still, just don’t install
    The idiotic thing at all.
In almost every house we’ve been,
We’ve watched them gaping at the screen.
They loll and slop and lounge about,
And stare until their eyes pop out.
(Last week in someone’s place we saw
A dozen eyeballs on the floor.)
They sit and stare and stare and sit
    Until they’re hypnotised by it,
    Until they’re absolutely drunk
With all that shocking ghastly junk. "

To be fair, Dahl may have had a slight agenda there.

Something is only obsolete if it doesn’t function any longer. My “old” TV from the 90s still functions perfectly well, and considering the sparse amount of programming worth watching nowadays I see no reason to spend money enriching Asian countries.
