Don, just found out this was available, and glad to be able to read it again. I’m somewhat younger than you but still remember Li’l Abner as my favorite. This particular story line probably preceded me. I remember a Daisy Mae who was a little prettier and with longer hair. Did a search and found pictures of Daisy through the years. Here she looks like a war bonds poster that featured her, which would probably put this story back in the 40s. If you are interested you can go to youtube and they have, broken into 4 parts, the album Mr. Capp made, called Al Capp on Campus. Very funny.

Wish I could visit the Valley of the Schmoon and experience a Sadie Hawkins Day. Capp also had a strip called Long Sam that I remember in my paper. By that time he had turned over the writing to a man called Bob Lubbers. Capp also ghost wrote Joe Palooka when Ham Fisher went on vacation, in the days before Abner.

In checking to see that my memory was accurate, I just found out that Al started a 3rd strip, called Abbie an’ Slats. I had heard of the strip but was unaware of Capp’s connection to it.
