    I see a resurgence of “We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone” signs. Maybe they can bring back two sets of drinking fountains as well.

    Lilo, your historical and legal ignorance is showing.

    It’s about one person’s “religious freedoms” taking away ALL OUR FREEDOMS. My religion causes me to be allergic to stupidity: therefore, can refuse my services to the Republicans in the Arizona legislature, hmmm, like my services as an EMT when they’ve been injured in one of their train wrecks??

    Businesses and morals? I didn’t think greed was a moral value. Really, businesses don’t come out well on any set of moral values.

    We have all lost sight of what is true.

    Bigots will remain no matter how many “laws” you pass.

    But people in trade don’t you have to be able to attract customers? If you begin turning them away, how long will it be before they go to the store on the next block? And do we NOT operate on “word of mouth” (even tv ads are just another form of information) and if our close friend says I no longer shop there the owners do not want my business are we not inclined to follow suit?

    Yes, Trout, one person with one shop can refuse to serve another because they do not like them or their lifestyle or even their appearance (no shirt, no shoes, no service comes to mind in Fla – a beach state).

    It’s when you try to force everyone else to adhere to YOUR point of view that you violate “rights”.

    If you make something illegal you must impose penalties. Then you must apply them “uniformly” on everyone with no prejudice.

    Government is not allowed to make laws concerning religion. NONE. So if you make a law forcing someone to violate their religious tenets – no matter how reprehensible YOU think they are – then you have violated that basic principle.

    Not wanting to bake a cake for a gay wedding in no way restricts the rights of gays to form partnerships, marry, or have sexual pyramids should that be their forte’…..

    It is bad for business however.

    @Bruce4671

    “no shirt, no shoes, no service”
    Health and safety issue, not lifestyle choice.

    picky picky picky…. the sign from a ice cream stand that has no indoor area, restrooms or similar establishment on the beach is routine.

    And there IS something to be said about “health issues” when you are dealing with a lifestyle that is conducive to HIV …..OH NO

    But an establishment may choose to serve anyone or not serve anyone for any number of reasons.

    I can pick you out of the crowd and say nope no soup for you!
