Once again, teachers are heroes. Until they ask to be paid the same as anyone else with a degree and a skill set…

teachers are our unsung daily heroes. but, in drastic events like this, they are in the forefront of heroism. so many reasons to thank teachers exist but the lives the teachers saved in OK – wow! how CAN you thank someone for risking their lives to save others!

Thank them, make sure they are paid well, make sure their classrooms are in good repair, make they have the supplies and materials they need to do their job. That is a start. Also, make sure the community has a rewards program for the most excellent teachers.

Nice sentiment, however the rethuglodytes will replace all public schools with FOR PROFIT schools within 10 years. If you think teachers are underpaid now, wait until we profit-ize even elementary schools.

Whether in a classroom threatened by a gunman, or a tornado, teachers have proven their love for children. It would be interesting to see some of our politicians and anti-tax folks do the same.

There should be vouchers in every state! I wish I could have gone to a good middle and high school. Mine were junk!

^the teachers union must be broken. They should be paid minimum wage with no benefits. that’s what makes good teachers!

I just love these comment sections and the way people self illustrate their own stupidity and ignorance. I.E. – rtool48 , if as you say you have parents with such accomplished academic careers , they should be hiding under the front porch about now. You have given the world a prime example of what academia produces , poor spelling , poor grammar and a warped view of the world. I salute real teachers , those who inspire us to learn all we can and think for ourselves. As for those teachers who have adopted a mindset promoted by too many of our universities of liberalism and entitlement – don’t be surprised by the future anarchy you are promoting! The teachers at Sandy Hook and in Oklahoma are hero’s for the way they have protected our most precious assets , not for or in spite of their work in theclassroom!

I second MSKEMPLE’s sentiment. As an analogy, a corrupt cop can be a hero, putting his life on the line all day, every day, saving lives and property in the process. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t kick him off the force— or bring him up on charges— in a second for being a corrupt cop.

Funny that some folks here ignore their own incorrect use of apostrophes, which blows their own puffed up criticism of others’ “poor spelling” and “grammar”. Others choosing not to worship at the altar of your own ideology is not an indication of a warped view of the world. Try stepping out of the echo chamber every once in a while. If you think that teachers don’t deserve the basics (such as adequate materials, environments, class sizes and pay), then you either haven’t set foot in a classroom for years, or are a hard hearted piece of work, indeed.

Certainly not an unreasonable request: Try watching ,listening ,or reading a variety of news and information sources instead of getting all your info from only one side of the aisle. My daughters homework assignments as well as having worked in many public schools over the years opened my eyes. Go to your local American middle school or high school and read the history texts , I’m betting what you read now won’t be what you read when you were in school. As for liberal arts curriculums – I was not refering to them. Liberal arts is a subject of study , I was simply pointing out how many college and university professors have become so liberal as to fail or give lower scores students who refuse to adopt liberal viewpoints. I have read the studies in my local paper, seen the studies on fox,cnn and pbs stations, and lastly been told of such behavior by my cousin who is a professor at Ohio State U. I have read your comments on other subjects and I doubt any of this will sink in , but I have at least tried to accommodate you and help you see that some of us do try and weigh both sides of any equation . The world is becoming a more and more liberal place , but if not tempered with conservative values and wisdom many of the changes liberals seek can have disasterous consequences.
