Is this about illegal immigration again? Can’t do it in this bill, look how hard it is just to get simple insurance reform passed.

Bet you a good majority of those 25% Latinos are illegal immigrants.

According to Obama our health care is some of the worse in the world. Maybe the part of the 25% that are illegal. Maybe they would be better to just go back home.

Hey!!! When are you going to realize that the vast majority of Latinos are U.S. citizens? I teach in East L.A. Lalo is a great Latino cartoonist. Since we Alglos are already a minority here in So. Cal., I would advise not assuming that the majority ethnic group are “Illegal!” In fact, you might consider that most Latinos consider the term “Illegal” racist!!!

The fact that undocumented aliens can receive only E.R. medical treatment in this country is a shame, and a threat to public health! But the myth that “illegal immigrants” are the cause of our increasing medical costs is a FOX NEWS MYTH.

Since some of you appear to be offended when I suggest turning off FOX news, I will amend my position. All major network news organizations were stripped of their independence by their corporate leeches years ago. News reporting was shifted to the entertainment divisions of the networks. TV news is no longer a reliable source for news. Turn them all off. Read at least two news papers a day, if you want to be a good citizen!!!!!!!
Try thinking before you take the next racist bite!!

HASTY–you seem to watch Fox quite a bit as you know more of what they show than all the others combined.

    Hasty, Amen!
Even a lot of the “illegals” pay taxes and support things which we take for granted. The term illegal applies to anyone not here legally, which includes Asian, African, Middle Eastern, European, Australian, South American and even Canadian.

I have met construction workers, health care workers, retail sales associates, food service personnel and many others who were illegal. Only some of these were Latino. A lot of these fit in with the appearance associated with “American” so they are never questioned.

Also remember that Florida, most of the West and Southwest were Hispanic territories before they were Anglo. Generations of Latinos own property and work where their ancestors did.

As a note to all, the rate of immigration has slowed, not due to the “Wall” but due to the economy, shifting of jobs to outside the U. S. If you want a U.S. job go to India, China or Mexico. Many of our college grads are going there.

    Bob,

You stated that a vast majority of Latinos are U.S. citizens. What percentage?
I actually have spoken with various people in the Hispanic community and I have asked that very question. The answers I have received is about half of them are illegal.

Due to I have worked in law enforcement and other jobs around the Hispanic community I can say I have never had any problems with them as a whole. The only problems in general comes from the Hispanic gangs. Since you stated you teach in LA you see that a lot more of that than I do.

    Edgar,

Is the black panthers, NAACP and ACORN considered law enforcement?

The answer is no on the above and yours. But they are all attempting to do the same thing just with different people.

I used to live in La Jolla and I was sous chef at a very nice French Restaurant. We had a guy there that had a growth on his neck that looked like an ectopic pregnancy!

I’m no neck goiter scientist, but I couldn’t help but think that this had the potential of not being good for the diners (he worked salads so there was plenty of skin contact with uncooked foods, this was before the days of plastic gloves, back in the late ’70s).

I said to the owner that this guy needed to be seen by a doctor (as if these guys had health benefits! I didn’t even have health benes). He wasn’t going for it, his attitude was that the guy should sneak back across the border to get it looked at.

Point here being that public health is about much more than the person seeing the doctor, its about the people that are infected by the guy who can’t afford to see the doctor!

How much is it worth to you not to get a horrible parasite from someone who can’t afford to see a doctor and can’t afford not to come into work, making your Salade Nicoise?

And who do you think it is that’s working in the kitchen of your local Greek Diner?

What’s your point, troutie? I’ll put Conquistador ethics up against Mayan ethics anyday: for one, because I know what the result will be… If you have a useful point about contemporary problems to make; make it ; otherwise lay off the inflammatory bull.
Speaking of inflammatory…I’ve been censored all over here in the last 24 hours. What’s the rules here, gocomics? Lefty - Good; Righty - bad ?

Reasons; I think you made a good point in your first post. Health is not just a private matter but in a certain way a public matter too. Infections and epidemics don’t just touch the “bad guys”, in the end, they affect us too. Have them watched by doctors and we are all in better health

  19. cdward

cdward said, about 1 month ago

Not only do illegals who can’t see a doctor affect everyone else’s health (and this applies to citizens who can’t afford to see a doctor), but if we try to “round them up”, they will simply go underground and have an even better chance of spreading infection. If you want to stop illegal immigration, go after the bosses who hire them. (and yes, of course they know they’re hiring illegals). Until then, it’s in everyone’s interest to make at least some medical services possible for them, too.

  20. olfart

olfart said, about 1 month ago

I agree with cdedward about the bosses. If they claim ignorance of their employees’ citizenship status it is an an admission of negligence. When a drug dealer is arrested, no one asks him whether he knew it was illegal. They just pack him off to jail. So it should be with those who traffic in illegal laborers.

mhenriday, I take your point, and appreciate the humor behind it too. I think immigration reform is badly needed for a host of reasons, but it should not be addressed in healthcare reform, any more than trying to rewrite tort reform should be addressed in a healthcare bill. I think immigration reform will probably happen in 2010, and it won’t be pretty either!

^ Ah, the Picasso painting wasn’t what I was referring to, it is what you figured out how it related to my nickname. :)

ParkerItH also said: love pictures and you know they speak a thousand somethings

Despite the differing political, religious et all viewpoints people have here, I think we at least all share that viewpoint since we are all cartoon fans. :)

(btw, introduced Picasso to my 21 month old daughter the weekend before last at the Tate Modern. She liked his “Head of a Woman. She wasn’t too impressed with his other works on show ;-) Her grand dad is an abstract artist himself so I hope some artistic skill rubs off on her. She does enjoy her scribbling at the moment! EDIT 2 hours later. …my wife just emailed me a few minutes ago a photo of her latest “scribbling”…a fairly well drawn heart shape. Ok, she has her Opa’s genes ;-) )

I’m convinced that Stripper wears a hoody so in his defense I want to make some laws too:

Let’s ship all the hispanics (legal or not) back to their respective countries. Then Put KKK members on the border. Then we can put a sign in spanish that says “all latinos will be shot upon entering U.S. soil”. That should get rid of the problem. Even if they are from the middle east we can pack them all to Mexico.

Next we ship anyone darker than a paper bag back to Africa, even if they are Hatian. This way reparations can be avoided and those people won’t be a burden to our welfare system.

As for Scotts, English, Irish and the like they will all be used to strengthen the “American Race” by looks only. If these people do not want to comply we will simply send them back to their respective countries so the inbreeding may continue.

I think I covered all the bases. If you have anymore Stripper please write them down on the next post.
