    This cartoon is stupid and a lie, and the artist shouldn’t be allowed to do it. /sarc off

    I just thought I’d try typing something like some of those here do when a cartoonist on the right uses dramatic license. It didn’t really do anything for me. I wonder why they do it.

    You are now free to pat each other on the back as you say how funny and accurate this is.

    First off, church, when we criticize a ‘toonist, we don’t say s/he shouldn’t be allowed to do it. If I find someone being stupid or blatantly disingenuous, I’ll say so. I have that right, just as they have to say stuff I find stupid etc. Secondly, frankly, this is not one of Alcaraz’s best. In fact, it’s sort of dumb, and I’d be amazed if any of the liberals in the group really like it.

    Having just watched replays of Rush’s comments on her, I’d be tempted, but she has too much class. If she was really the “liberal” that Rush proclaims, she’d be suing the airport authority by now.

    @ churchie: I see what you’re trying to do here, but you really picked a lame panel to do it on. All artists fall short of their usual every now and then.

    Ben Sargent did an awsome job of skewering one of the sacred cows of the extremist right with his cartoon of the same day. I would recommend trying again there. You might have better luck there unless you meant to pick on a lame cartoon.

    churchill, I agree with fennec, this is not one of the best toons on the subject, and it’s kind of lame, because it’s not something Sotomayor would do, nor probably any nominee to the Supreme Court.

    Now if I were to meet Llimblahblah that would be another story …. just kidding, I don’t advocae physical violence.

    Now I’m not sure what the snark off means, but that’s the type of stuff I see here all the time. That’s the point of my post.

    On a side note, I have noticed that the first comment on a toon often sets the tone for the comments that follow. In this regard, I would contend that without my initial comment, libs here would have been gushing about how funny this is, and about oxycontin addicted Rush, etc. Of course I can’t prove my theory now, because of my post. So I guess I ruined happy time for a bunch of posters!

    churchill, I understand the point you made, but I can tell you without a doubt that when I saw the toon, and had not yet read the comment, i thought exactly what I wrote, not really funny because sotomayor would never do it . From what I’ve seen of her since being nominated, she’s comported herself with grace and dignity

    Well, racist seems to be a relative term nowadays. She’s a “Brown-supremacist”. Shouldn’t lefties be against bigotry of all types? In the end Black and brown-supremacists only hurt themselves when they reject philosophy and cultural-paradigms that work.

    Here is a candidate for the Supreme Court and the lefties are gushing all over her, here and elsewhere - even after Churchill’s pre-emptive strike:


    1. You know next to nothing about her.

    2. The Dems are going to cut off scrutiny of her record, so it is doubtful we’ll even get to know her true judicial views on anything of importance. (How’s that for LIB transparency?).

    3. Rush is an entertainer, and I doubt if Sotomayor has any clue at all who he is.
      4.Even “moderate” lefties are bizarre. Consider how her college thesis supported Peurto Rican independence.

    4. It’s moot whether she should be allowed to serve. Although, if she was a conservative choice she would be blocked.
      But,

    5. the fact that she _IS_ a minority and compliments the diversity of the court, I feel is valid.

    Once again I see the right-wingers using slander, misrepresentation, and misdirection to try to muddy the waters because this is a fight they cannot win on the merits. Sotomayor will be confirmed; delaying that is only part of the wingnuts’ objective.

    The ‘nuts want to delay the hearing because it is a great fund-raising opportunity, but the broader goal is to hold back the inexorable progress this nation is making toward justice. They’re afraid their little anthill of power is being kicked down, but they don’t realize that the new edifice will be much grander and with a better foundation. When all people are held in respect and show respect in return, it won’t matter so much about outward appearances. Sotomayor’s confirmation will advance that future another step, despite the best efforts of the troglodytes.
