here’s the hostage theme again (see Conrad)
I say with complete conviction that at this point in time, the only thing the GOP is concerned about is increasing their numbers in the 2010 elections and positioning for 2012. They do not care about me, they do not care about you unless you are in the upper echelons of wealthy. They’ve proved they don’t care about spending money we don’t have, only who gets the taxpayer funds represented by deficit spending. They care about making the tax codes ‘friendlier’ for those who do not earn wages but make their wealth through hedge funds, esoteric investment and real estate speculation. They believe those who earn income through capital gains should pay a lower tax rate than those who earn wages. They do not care about this economy benefitting working men and women.
They want to restore the status quo before the meltdown, when wages remained stagnant, employee benefits eroded consistently and pensions disappeared, while CEO and top management pay, perks and bonuses climbed ever higher.
If this is what you want for the future, cheer on the GOP because that is the only thing they are offering. That is the only thing they’re concerned about.
More of the same that doesn’t work for you but works remarkably well for them.

believe- they’ve been doing this for a long time. And they use wedge issues like prayer in school, gay marriage, and anti-gun control to bring in people who aren’t going to benefit one bit by their economic policies. That’s why they call the Estate Tax the Death Tax. So that ordinary people think it afects them, when it doesn’t.

No. It was under Reagan that this country started importing more finished materials than exporting. The GOP has and is against labor and unions even though most of us are labor. What working person cares if capital gains get taxed at the same rate as wages from employment? The gop is in trouble.

They say there are two types of republicans-rich people and fools.

Tracht47, instead of “fools” I believe the politically correct term is “educationally-challenged mythically-believing rednecks”.

It do look like the “ship of fools” in the toon. Holding Uncle Sam hostage- rather like the Minnesota governor and Norm Colman holding the citizens of Minnesota hostage and not permitting them to have their senator seated. Vanity, vanity -all is vanity! Thus spoke Quoleth of the Old Testament.

Stupid question, Stewie. No one would imagine such a scenario.

The elephants are symbols and not recognizable individuals, so blowing away some obstructionists ideas from the path forward is fine by me. Taking aim at the President himself would qualify one as a ‘extremist’, and they will be watched closely by the Secret Service and the FBI. You aren’t suggesting violence against the President, are you, Stewie?
Corosive Frog said, 7 months ago
stewie; maybe it is because people really ARE fed up of the GOP-for now.

Stewie- your ignorant, violent words are just the kind of thing that helped in the assasination of Martin Luther King. During the campaign rallies of McCain and Palin the white militia was out in force and McCain had to rein in some of the people who thought Obama Was a Terrorist- or was an “ARAB”. I have enough contact with racist people in my area who are not as mentally stable as they should be. Keep on with your innuendoes and you might be called in to answer some questions.

The “Dems”, including President Obama, have the unenviable task of cleaning up the travesty of eight years of Bush Republican rule.
And they get to do this with all the residual Bush supporters desperately trying to transfer the blame to country’s saviors.

PilotX, let’s not forget that former President Reagan also froze the minimum wage; so it stayed at $3.35 per hour from 1981 until he left office in 1989.

oldie, the free market will be healthier if there are proper regulations and oversight. The transactions devised where only one or two people knew what was actually in the theoretical model are what caused the most recent crisis. If buyers and sellers know what’s going on equally, very little of this would be going on.
