That’s right, don’t feed the people DIRECTLY for goodness sake, you’re supposed to feed the wealthy, powerful and influential, and we let it trickle down to the ‘little people.” How dare you disrupt the natural order of things.

Obama’s “Stimulus” package is based on trickle down economics…

So the Elephant decides for the hungry little babies. Good thing the Democrats have the power to get the bill passed.

Because like all men and women, Liberals are fundamentally dishonest. You can bet what is in that bowl is worse than what you could get on your own and what you could get on your own doesn’t require you to sell your soul to get it.

Never feed a baby pork….makes em lazy and dependent…..

NFP, thanks for the view of a Conservative mind. “All men and women….are fundamentally dishonest.” I take it that includes you. So now we can deduce the second half of your rant is false. Therefor you REALLY believe the stimulus package will give individuals benefits they could not achieve on their own?

Y’all might find Krugman’s commentary of interest.

NFP, in Lincoln’s words it is the responsibility of government to help the people to do what is not possible for them to accomplish as individuals. Those aren’t the exact words, not as elegant but it is the gist of his comment. Also it is an important goal, not trivial.

PlainBill - One properly assumes, if they are mature individuals, that even if a man is honest , it is probable that he will nonetheless engage in activity that will be against your best interest, so that - even if one does not believe in the total-depravity of man - one will make allowances to protect oneself from ever being obligated to another man or woman except in the most unforeseeable and incontrovertible, or contrariwise; the most amiable of situations. Our forefathers having ascertained the necessity of such boundaries set up a system of government where self-determination and self-achievement is nurtured and protected. And your suggestion that I am dis-honest in no way betters your situation or dis-qualifies you from having to exercise prudence in your personal and social transactions. Shall Obama also change your diaper?

Human civilization is based on human beings being social animals. The type of civilization it is, is shaped by how people treat each other, how much they trust each other. Some, of course, want to stay away from others as much as possible, for what reason? Fear?

Actually, Machado, it’s trickle “up” economics which should be a refreshing change from the Republican view of the last three decades wherein the wealthy and connected are supposed to assure the prosperity of the society by the rate at which their droppings hit the floor. High time the focus was put back on the middle and lower working classes where it was in the fifties and sixties when America was becoming THE Superpower and defeating the USSR.
Perhaps prosperity will return an the wealthy will once again get used to working for their living like everybody else.

Thank you RandianRon, but I believe I must have been recalling something I may have read elsewhere. Maybe something by Pascal or DesCartes?
