    When white guys shoot up clinics or shoot up Black Lives Matters protests, they’re lone nutjobs. It has nothing to do with the constant stream of hysterics from right wing "entertainers.

    @Uncle Joe

    The hysterics from the right wing are what gets into the heads of lone nutjobs and gets them riled up enough to shoot up clinics, or schools, or whatever it will be next week. You can’t spread hate to further your own agenda without knowing that some of the people listening or watching are going to do more than vote the way you want them to vote.

    I was eating at a highway restaurant with a TV showing CNN. The talking heads were quick to dismiss the crazy suggestion that round-the-clock hate rhetoric from the right might have had anything to do with a guy shooting up a Planned Parenthood while echoing hate rhetoric from the right with weapons that the right insists are more important than food.

    I guess you haven’t seen the pictures of the guy who killed people in Colorado. Just sketch a beard on the guy in the ‘toon & that’s him. One of the shooters in Minneapolis had the Confederate ‘Bonnie Blue’ flag on his Facebook page. There have been other mass shooting terrorists who were fans of the Confederate flag.

    Does that mean every guy in a Confederate flag shirt is going to kill people? Of course not, but it is a symbol of the groups that breed these terrorists. These guys are not simply lone nutjobs who decide to kill at a whim.

    My main issue is with the people who pretend that Syrian refugees are a huge threat, yet they ignore these groups who are already here.

    Very interesting today: same thing in editorial toons from Lalo Alcaraz and from Michael Ramirez who, I believe are from opposite political sides.
    They both depict a naive black and white view of a situation. With Ramirez, it is the idea that fighting climate change automatically means not fighting Daesh. As if both couldn’t be done at the same time, because both ARE current problems that need to be tackled now. You don’t get to choose.
    Same thing here in reverse. It is not because there are indeed extreme right white nut jobs who go around killing people that Syrian refugees are not a threat. Many (most)refugees are legitimate, but unfortunately, as is being clearly shown in europe, many among them are cheaters, liars and or fundamentalists who have no intention to integrate and adapt to their hosts countries and are already bringing their conflicts into the countries that welcome them. (Check how the Sunny and Shiia refuges are going at each other in the temporary camps for instance.)

    I’m not saying they should be all cast away because there can be doubts, but that one cannot be naive and trust them all, because when the bad seeds among them show up, it’s all the refugees, even the honest ones, that will suffer from the backlash.

    To conclude that ALL right wing nut jobs, or Syrian refugees (especially under 12 years old) are terrorists out to kill for their radical beliefs is wrong. To note that fact that so many of these shooters ARE “right wing nut jobs” (Roof, Dear for examples), just as those very FEW Muslims who support ISIL ARE psychotic killers, is just reality.

    That it is indeed the “conservatives” who rant and react to challenge these facts about their own “bastard children” in their midst, doesn’t support their cause.

    Generalizations and “broad brushing” of whole populations is by definition “conservative” thought process (not to be confused with the political interpretation), it’s psychology, not sociology.

    Branding all cops as bad is perhaps from the same fact-free perspective.

    In ALL groups, it is the black sheep that is usually the exception, rather than the rule, and they are the ones who should indeed be culled from the flock.

    Yes in the US they are usually white, Rightwing and Christian. But they don’t all fit that catch all stereotype.
