In 1492, Columbus sailed the blue,
    He slaughtered who was here,
Then sat back and had a beer,
    In 1492.
And no that was not the least bit funny.

Lalo, you have the power to draw your world any way you want. Look at those characters – they’re dismayed and definitely not happy.
Tell you what – why not try a smile once in a while? Like lots of comedians do – they get their point across but they’re trying to do it with humor, and they laugh along with their audiences.
A solid diet of dour makes Jack a dull boy, so maybe it’s time to show that your characters have more than one dimension, eh?
You don’t want people to think Latinos don’t have fun, do you? Lighten up your guys, let them smile, and start providing a more varied side of Life, baby!

It ain’t Baldo. Besides if you had to listen to right wingers talk about refugee kids like Nazis talked about Jews in “The Eternal Jew”you are not going to smile.

I still think that “LA CUCARACHA, THE MOVIE!” is best. With an all-Latino cast and a Miss Venezuela as Vero.

Everyone is still ignoring what all those lovable cherubs will cost local communities for housing and schooling. When the Feds step in, they will of course, screw up the effort.

And just think, once we invest in their housing and schooling, they’ll get jobs, pay taxes, and fund the SSA and Medicare our own demographic imbalance won’t.

“I got mine, go get yer own!” I won’t get into the humanitarian dimensions of this, because you’ve consistently demonstrated you simply don’t care about your fellow human.

So instead I’ll say this, which I’m sure you’ll figure out some way to avoid actually understanding: It’s been shown over and over again that immigrants, including undocumented immigrants (and refugees!) put more into the US economy than they take out. They actually help the economy grow. So, you know, you’ve got a pretty shortsighted outlook on matters economic, even if all you care about is making sure people fatten your own wallet.

Because addressing racism must mean smiles! Wheeeee! Here’s a comedian who rarely smiled on screen: Charlie Chaplin. Here’s another: Buster Keaton. Here’s a couple who smiled a lot: Amos and Andy. Here’s another one who did: Stepin Fetchit. Here’s one who, whenever he smiled, white folks got nervous: Richard Pryor. Here’s a giant hit show whose comedy did not come from people smiling: The Office. Here’s another where people actually didn’t smile that much: Everybody Loves Raymond. Here’s a comic strip where just about nobody smiles: Pearls before Swine. Here’s another where it’s rare: Get Fuzzy. Heres another: The Boondocks. I’ll bet you sit around grinning ear to ear when you write your little missives here. But that don’t make you funny, or even happy. And I don’t know if you missed the banner up top, but in the one at the top of my page, Vero is smiling wide.

But I think it’s more that you don’t want this strip to address social and political issues. I totally support your right to not want that. I also disagree with you 100%.

At least mdavis can be counted on to be utterly consistent, no matter which comic mdavis is posting to. The message can be summed up as this: “Unthinking hate rage hate rage hate hate rage rage hate.”

It will take decades before the younger children will be able to earn their own living. In the meantime, we all foot the bill. Those children that grow up in our entitlement system, SNAP, low income housing, free medical care won’t have a reason to try to be a benefit to our society ‘cause they’ll have learned they don’t have to bother. Uncle Sugar will take care of everything.

Aaand, you just reconfirmed your shortsightedness. For one, 15 years stretches the definition of “decades.” Sure, if they go on to college, that’s more time, but the more college-educated folks there are in this country, the better off it does. People in this country buy houses on 30-year mortgages, but folks like you can’t wait 15 years or less to start squeezing some return out of refugee kids. Refugee kids who, for the most part, are being claimed by family members who already live here, contribute to the economy, pay taxes, etc. As for your channeling of Mike Huckabee with your “Uncle Sugar” line, well, it’s based on a completely false premise, but one that’s been around at least since southern whites got mad about Reconstruction.
