    Reminds me of the opening chapter of Ralph Ellison’s “Invisible Man.”

    @Jeff Kiser

    Apparently not if you look at the comic today. What do you see? Not what you think you are seeing. He is talking about the rampant prejudice against African Americans. Do you see a Peruvian there?

    I see a roach. Where the heck does he get the Peruvian from?

    The music industry energetically promotes a brutish, nasty, Gansta image as a desirable life style to young men. When the youngsters adopt the image as their reality, hoodies included, they succeed in intimidating others. This sort of swaggering insult always generates fear and hostility from their victims. If you look and walk like a thug, you’ll be treated as a thug.

    Time to move this strip to the editorial section where it belongs.

    Hoodies are not the result of the gangsta image. I’ll bet almost everyone in this country has a hoodie in his/her wardrobe. For kids, they are inexpensive, comfortable, easy to wash, warm, practical because in rainy or chilly weather they can pull the hood up, easy to crumple up in a backpack, and a good means of identifying clubs and interest groups, and schools. All the kids in my children’s high school band were given hoodies to wear to football games or gigs. I love my hoodies. I have three hoodies which I wear all the time, and I’m 65,

    I have six I wear for the same reason. At 70, I don’t tolerate cold weather as well as I used to. Two are more like mini-parkas, perhaps they don’t count. :-)

    Rampant prejudice?
    We all pre-judge our surroundings based on previous experience. (At least, the intelligent among us do.) If you look like a criminal, act like a criminal and sound like a criminal, do not be surprised if you are treated like a criminal.
