Why would he change the Redskins? It’s already a racial slur.

True. But actually he is fond of the term “injun”. And folks say he’s not a racist huh?

I’m no fan of Rush, but it is despicable that the Rush-haters are attributing to him fictitious racist quotations. It’s OK if a leftist like Ted Turner owns a sports team, but not a conservative. But the Left is only concerned with fairness for those who agree with them.

Liberty Media bought the Braves from Time-Warner in May of 2007. Ted is no longer the owner of the club.

Um, I hate to interrupt your despica-fest, but here:

It doesn’t really matter, anyway. The Right chants their mantra that Obama is a socialist much the same way that MLK and Nelson Mandela were accused of being Communists - and Rush is part of that chorus, but that isn’t why he’s not an NFL owner today.

The NFL is about CAPITALISM. It provides exactly one product - entertainment, and it’s out to generate profit. Period. The NFL media empire is in little or no mood to be married to the Limbaugh media empire, which caters to one market segment while alienating another.

The NFL (in concert with, and backed by, the TV networks) understands exactly one value proposition - you bring in more market share. It has absolutely no tolerance for the alternative proposition - that you alienate any portion of the existing market or otherwise reduce share.

Whatever your politics may be, one has to admit that having to “morally qualify” to buy something like an NFL team is pretty absurd. It is not like he is running for pope or a political office or even dogcatcher. It’s a football team as secular as one can get. I had not noticed that professional sports could claim to be a moral arbiter for anyone. It seems the players can indulge in any number of moral, social and illegal vices and be exempt from criticism.

There seems to be quite a lot of fingerpointing on both sides as to who has the high ground while most of us are just drowning. Who sets up the committee that judges your fitness? Who can qualify for that job? Not who thinks they could, but who actually can. I get more confused every day.

Union High School, here in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which is in the Union Publc Schools System and not the Tulsa Public Schools system, has “Redskins” as its team mascot.

Local Native Americans have tried to get them to change the name to something else. Some of those involved in that did get Northeastern State University to change its mascot name from “Redmen” to something else.

I am a Northeastern Alumnus and I liked the “Redmen” name just fine. After all, “Oklahoma” is from two Indian words which mean “Redmen.”

The now official mascot is “Riverhawks.” What’s a riverhawk? No one in Oklahoma has ever seen one within 100 miles of the school in Tahlequah, which is 50 miles from Tulsa.

Since the Union School District was originally just a rural school district between Tulsa and Broken Arrow, in my opinion, if they want “red” as part of their team name, they can call themselves “Rednecks.”

Nighthawks, the quotes on your link are FABRICATED! They are completely fictitious, made up by a blogger and repeated in the mass media that refuses to do its due diligence.

Limbaugh denies them, his shows are all archived (even the George Soros funded Media Matters can’t produce the evidence and they document Limbaugh’s every breath)
    http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/limbaugh.asp

Limbaugh is NOT a racist. If you actually listened to Rush, you’d understand that he mostly talks about the greatness of America, the protection of liberty and is constantly engaged in the relentless pursuit of pushing back at an ever-expansive federal government which threatens that greatness and those liberties. He does this by DOCUMENTING what those in congress and the executive branch are saying, by actually playing their statements from the house floor and media interviews.

Take him to task on what he is, not what he isn’t. All the left knows is demagoguery - If you disagree with a liberal, you must be a racist, hater, homophobe, bigot, misogynist, etc.., etc..

Learn to engage in meaningful debate.

Having said my piece, I still thank Lalo is a great cartoonist - the artwork is great, the characters and story are completely original, etc… I really enjoy the feature (especially the ‘Beandocks’ quasi-spinoff)

Just deal with the issues HONESTLY, Lalo.

Scott, there are numerous quotes from Limbaugh that are considered by many, including me, racist. As a liberal I love meaningful debate especially with those whom I disagree with and no I don’t broadly brush those people as racists, homophobs or bigots unless they act in such a manner. Mr. Limbaugh has acted in such a manner. If he really wants to own an NFL franchise he should talk more sports on his show, maybe all sports and buy a minor league team such as an arena league team and show he can play nicely with others. If he wants to continue to spew insensitive remarks all day he will have to do what 99.9999999% of the rest of us do, live without owning an NFL franchise.

Nighthawks: As I said, I’m not a fan of Rush Limbaugh no matter what you think. (He defends the religious Right which I abhor.)

And please, next time you want to supply evidence of some public character’s statements, try to find some video so we can hear it from that person’s own mouth. (That shouldn’t be too difficult in the Age of the Internet. But the burden is on you to find it.)

BTW, what’s with what looks like a black-face avatar? But I shouldn’t be hasty about that; some ridiculous person on this site once looked at my childhood hero Flash Gordon and assumed it meant I was a neo-Nazi. It’s just that as a child I saw a black-faced minstrel show done as a fund-raiser by an Episcopal Church(!!!), and that grotesque event has stuck with me over 50 years.

pschearer, this is not about conservative v. liberal as most NFL owners are conservatives or at least give most of their money to conservative candidates it’s about keeping a controversial person out of their ranks. It’s about money. Rush has made too many negative comments and got fired as an NFL commentator so why would they want him in their ranks? He brought this on himself, he makes money by being controversial and the NFL wants to avoid controversy. Simple.
