My ancestor, Edward Doty, was one of the Mayflower passengers. He was NOT a Pilgrim and he got into legal trouble a lot.
Edward was an indentured servant of another passenger who paid his passage. That man also paid the passage of another non-Pilgrim. Edward and the other servant got into an argument over a woman and were just about to have a duel on the beach. Miles Standish came along and put a stop to it. Since they were both guilty of attempted murder, they did endure one day locked up. They were both released when they promised not to do that again.
The Miles Standish, Jr. thing here is sort of a non-sequitur in the sense that he would have to be close to 400 years old.

Hank, do you suppose the original residents of this country issued the Pilgirms entry visas?

The natives realized our ancestors were all “illegals” once.

Since the natives were not a nation, our ancestors were emphatically NOT here illegally. At the end of the day we conquered them fair-and-square.
And unlike other conquering nations throughout history, we then gave them land and tax free status - and liquor in exchange for the smokes.

Not a nation, i don’t think that’s how the natives saw it. And as for giving them anything, the land was already theirs and it was stolen from them. The truth is this nation took more than they gave.

There is not a parcel of land on this Earth that has not come into possession of a people without being conquered. Again, we conquered them fair and square. We had no obligation to give them ANYTHING. Each tribe had it’s own culture and contrary to hippie belief, these were not a bunch of people in harmony with the Earth, at peace with all mankind. Many (most) were primitive and savage and made no distinction between killing white Europeans or neighboring tribes. It was the settlers that offered up the treaties, although breaches came from both sides.
The only thing we should be giving illegal immigrants and their anchor babies is a ride back home.

raven, what relevance are you trying to establish between pilgrims and illegal immigrants? i understand what you’re trying to put forth, but it’s a reach too far.

I don’t know about that, Ale83, we gave ‘em tons of jewelry, mirrors, rings, beads, etc, etc…
