   Tho I am NOT a conservative, I’m happy to be pro-smog. At least compared to the historical alternative of horse droppings and urine filling the streets.

   In old neighborhoods of many cities you can still see cast iron “mud scrapers” next to front doors. “Mud” was a euphemism.

   Of course, smog vs. horse $#!T is a false alternative. We CAN have both cars and clean air. I just wish it weren’t by the command of the White House.

   In addition to much cleaner cars, we can also invest in much better public transit. My home town used to have a trolly and great busses back before the 60s. Then they tore out the tracks to make room for more cars…

   Unfortunately, there aren’t very many financial incentives to voluntarily make cars with less horsepower and better mileage.

   Those who do so risk losing market share to those who continue to produce powerful gas-burners.

   That explains why the last significant increase in mileage came with the imposition of government regulations - it simply levels the playing field for all competitors.

   I think I agree about pro-smog. I never like the smell of smog. It is too difficult to breathe while the smog is all over the area of city just like Los Angeles, CA. I also never like the smell of the diesel. It makes me coughing and disguisting sick. :-p
