B. Kliban’s vast body of playful, surreal irreverent free-form work is well overdue for re-discovery. An innovator who significantly expanded the realm of cartooning, Kliban inspired a generation with his no-limits approach. His numerous books – Never Eat Anything Bigger Than Your Head, Whack Your Porcupine, Two Guys Fooling Around With the Moon among them – spread the Kliban vision far and wide, and put the term “Klibanesque” in the dictionary. His constructions – whether single-panel drawings (“Mental floss.”), multi-panel sequences (“Four Useless Motions”) or eight-panel image-poems (“Sheer Pottery”) – push fearlessly forward into unexplored territory. Welcome to his unique and compelling world.

At least the locals know which way the wind is blowing.

Yeah, the pennant plainly shows the wind blowing straight down.

I may be the only one who first thought of a fungus when they saw this comic. The rubber tower bears a remarkable resemblance to the semifree morel mushroom. This fairly crappy picture of one is the only one I could find that I’ve taken that’s online.

@LafInLarry
Semifree? How much are they?

A buck three eighty.
And the reason I thought of that particular fungus is that like the leaning rubber tower, the roof/cap meets the tower walls/stem half way between the base and the peak. Most morels have the cap attached at the base. The sort of poisonous verpas have the cap attached at the peak.
5 months until tasty fungus season.
