I was totally at loss for words here until I remembered our first cat. My husband used to call it useless. One day (and I was away unfortunately) the cat brought him a mouse and let it loose in the house. Then it sat back to watch the show as if to say, “Useless am I? Let’s see how good YOU are at catching a mouse.”

LOL I hope that taught him not to call the cat useless.

My husband was an excellent mouser. In the house he caught them and threw them out. Most of our cats were lazy but well loved. I now have and excellent hunter and gatherer. Dawg Gone! I have to figure out to catch them and get them out before she eats them. Husband passed on.

My current cat is a great ratter! He killed a bunch of rats in our stand-apart garage (and left them there to rot!) before we even knew he was there! tom Dooley even brought in a LIVE UN-INJURED rat and let it loose in the house. I cornered it in the bathroom and we figgered out how to get it outside. He’s killed a few squirrells too.
I had another little kitten who brought me a live, and then another dead, garter snake.
And in my pre-cat years, I did jump on the couch when I saw a mouse in the kitchen. It was a long leap!
