all comic aside I wish it where that easy. I do pray that President Oboma does make Iran work something out. I also believe that he believes he can do it. The problem I see is right now he has shown no backbone! You can put out that hand. It is the right thing to do. But buddy you better be able to have the b@[[s to back it up if something goes wrong!

Yes oldlegodad there lies about us are one factor. Maybe President Obama can have a impact there? The other problem is their teaching teaches them that those who do not come from power are to be taken by power. ergo you can put out the hand but you better be on the high ground.

Harley, some truth in your observation of the Iranian leadership’s mental but don’t place an entire cultre in a simplistic grouping. Think about it … even the longest jourey starts with the first step. PS Obama has no backbone!? He’s taking a first step. All W did was wear a dark suit and ask Uncle Dick.

    All comic aside.
Yes I would not want to lump all there culture into one lump. but right now the guys who want to make peace are not in charge. But if you want peace the ones who want peace must step up. If we go over there weak they will only believe what the leaders say. It does not take a backbone to show a flash in the pan hand. He is only going for show. He went on their tv 1st and apologized! That makes us look weak and they will only feed into what they want. And there leaders want us DEAD!

harley you do have a fear of weakness or ego? We can argue until the cows come home about who owes what to whom form history’s mistakes, on both sides. Time to get a’ move on. I think it takes a lot of d@mn guts for the Pres to extend a hand in peace to see where this will lead. I’ll have to credit your concerns about the Iranian “Leadership” but there must be a “First Step” or are you planning on playing “last man standing”.

We are the USA! We have ended 2 World Wars! We are proud of who we are and believ we are the freest in the world with one of the highest standards of living! We are a SUPER power! What you mistake as ego is just what we are.
Now tell me again how President Obama shows us? He goes on the Arab TV and apologizes. In the eyes of thier leaders that is weakness that they will take advantage of.
Going and putting your hand out asking then to join the rest of the world and stop making wars is a good thing. But I will stand by my 1st post You better have the Balls to back it up if something goes wrong!

and my 2nd post You better be the guy on the higher ground or history shows they will run you down!
Mr. President this is not a photo op! Tell them we want peace! Our nation wants Peace! The good people of your nation want Peace! But if you cross us you deal with US!

harley, showing some sense here. ;)

It’s a start, and is an important one. Like Humphrioes said, it takes guts to be the first one to extend the hand & see what happens. Now the pressure is on Iran.

PS harleyq - better step back an take a real look at the world. W trashed a lot of our military superiority and badly damaged our political prestige and integrity with his “my way or the highway” diplomacy. Pres Obama’s election alone has gone a good ways toward repairing some of that damage.I’ve watched AL Jazeera International and there’s a lot of respect for Pres Obama as well as for the US and economoc concerns we have. 1945 is a long time in the past we’re part of this world not it’s bully. I’ll respect the point you have about some of the governments of radical regimes not a entire culture though.

W did what he thought he needed to do to keep us safe and guess what, despite what wishes of Iran we have not had another attack on our shores. An attack by the way most said most said would have happened by now.
Now President Obama if he can build on it. Not back down like he has been but build on it! Fine My way or the highway has kept us safe. But you can now move to phase two. Stop it or we will keep it up. They have lost for the most part. Give them a chance to see that. and Give old W some credit.
You think 1945 was a long time ago these guys hold onto a grudge for 100’s of years!
As for the rest of the world lead by example. I would rather be the USA then France.

harley … “W kept us safe” is a fantasy touted by Karl Rove. W’s crew dropped the ball and we’re living under a greater threat than ever. I don’t mean from some sick-old cracpot hiding somewhere in the middle-east, if he even is alive, and fanitical followers. The US has business interests around the world that make very inviting targets. Sensation for fear is the goal not some gas station in Pungo Virginia.

Ok I am done with this thread just one more thing, can’t help myself comic on
Clinton oops I dropped my pants so now I have to bomb a aspirin factory to wag the dog “dropped the ball” So “Hum..” while he was working on what “is”is the planning and almost everything but the flying happened. He gutted the military and left our @$$ hanging out in the wind with what he did to our information gathering methods!

Now that I got that out of my system

I “hope” and pray President Obama can BUILD on what President Bush did to keep us safe! Maybe he could be the right guy but I really do not see him growing a pair anytime soon. And I want him to prove me wrong for all our sake!

Unique harleyq … which Pres are you talking about? You gave a perfect assessment of W’S tenure. As for the rest it sounds like the rambling of a frustrated man.

  15. motivemagus

    motivemagus said, 9 months ago

harley - W gutted our military, cut benefits, reduced current care, strained our resources with two badly-run wars (and it’s not like he wasn’t warned), and made us considerably less safe by ignoring the CIA’s experts (who said Iraq didn’t have WMDs) and giving millions of Iraqis and Afganis a real reason to join Al Queda – which has mushroomed in growth. Oh, yes, and alienated all the allies we needed. Remember, we needed to bribe Turkey to be an “ally?” That hardly makes us safer!

  16. HUMPHRIES

    HUMPHRIESGenius_badge said, 9 months ago

motive … please pardon the butt in but these things you’ve mentioned just don’t fit in with harleyq’s reconceived notions as to what’s happened in the past eight years or so.
