    Kudos to Catalino: two toons in a row with no mention of Obama or the White House. Yes, West Virginia, there IS a world outside the bubble…

    What a good time to cut food stamps and unemployment.
    Those people will be remembered when it comes time for a vote.

    Uh, the toon is slapping at the alleged responsibility of the administration policies raising those ag prices, along with worrying that NOT giving outrageous subsidies to corporate agricultural interests will of course drive prices up. After all, billion dollars in profits need taxpayer support!!

    @Overtaxed

    The small farms go out of business due to socialist government imposed regulations…

    What rock have you been living under for the last 80 years? it ain’t socialism that’s been replacing family farms with factory farms. Factory farms undercut the family run ones. We’ll just pretend that lack of regulation on hormones, antibiotics & other chemicals doesn’t matter.

    Jeez, it’s fascinating to see “socialist” sprinkled so liberally (every pun intended) in your word-salad rant, especially if you have no idea what true socialism is.

    Don’t need to hate milk, don’t need to buy it either.

    I like milk. A lot. Especially with certain foods. Although I was never lactose intolerant before, I’ve found that in my middle age (shudder) I’ve got a slight case of it, though. I’ve read on the interweb tube that this is common. Can anyone confirm?

    You can usually find a lactase supplement in the pharmacy section of discount stores. You would take the supplement before knowingly eating anything containing lactose to prevent those nasty after effects.

    Lactase is the enzyme that breaks down lactose in the digestive system. Lactose intolerance occurs when the body doesn’t produce the lactase enzyme.

    All mammals produce the enzyme during infancy to digest their mother’s milk. As they grow, it’s normal for them to loose the ability to produce it, as it’s no longer necessary. Many scientist believe humans developed the ability to continue to produce the enzyme after being weened after man domesticated animals and started eating foods containing their milk. This would explain why lactose intolerance is less prevalent in cultures where dairy is common, but very prevalent in cultures that are traditionally dairy free.

    Thank you for your time. You confirmed everything I’ve read on the interwebtube.

    You’re welcome. I often have to explain the difference between lactose intolerance and dairy allergy. Often times people assume that when you tell them you’re allergic to dairy, you really mean your lactose intolerant.
