Gosh, I’ve been married for more than thirty-five years, and it was perhaps the best decision I ever made. Of course every relationship has its ups and downs, but you work on it and things work out. I’m not at all suggesting that every marriage will work, but over all I think marriage is a pretty good institution.

This cartoon makes the assumption that DOMA defends marriage, rather than preventing it. Good on the supreme court, but it’s scary that four of them couldn’t bring themselves to side with liberty, justice, and keeping government out of our bedrooms.

First of the month we’re going back to visit my longest – term friend, who is quite religious, very right wing, and most upset about striking down DOMA. We’ve been friends because, like in a good marriage, or friendship, we can agree to disagree on some things.

The interesting thing is that while I’m “mostly Buddhist” in my beliefs, and found DOMA a joke, he’s a “super-Chrirstian”, I’ve been married to the same woman for 43 years, and he’s on wife number THREE!

No, I think progressives are trying to get big government (and big religion) out of people’s personal lives. We will have a better community, and people will have better families, when religion can no longer use government to impose a particular religious interpretation of marriage.

What do people think of Polygamy after all this?

Depends. Personally, I never found more than one person who would put up with me.
