   In going to foreign countries, and speaking with folks from around the world, the most common thing I heard, for years, was “We still love Americans, it’s your government we hate.” Meaning the “shoot first, ask questions later” actions of too many administrations, notably on “the right” after the debacle in Viet Nam, lesson NOT learned. (Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iraq again, among others, overt and COVERT)

   
   The PURPOSE of the Department of State IS to resolve issues WITHOUT going to “war”, and seek to make not just peace, but friends, around the world, and resolve issues even with “enemies” without resorting to the “Rambo solution” that our knee-jerk reactionaries derive from movies, TV, and “chickenhawk” mentalities

    We will find out if Kerry can be a real Dept Head or just another personality. Too bad Clinton did not step aside sooner. I really would like our govt to succeed at being a small, good government that stops bullying other countries.

    Maybe when we don’t have our military stationed all over the world we won’t be seen as an imperialist power. Obama came up with the grand plan of stationing troops in Australia to have a “presence” in South East Asia. I’m sure the Chinese are terrified. If there ever was a confrontation with China it would be nuclear, not another land war. Odds are they will avoid that, it’s easier for them to just continue buying our debt, then they can just call in their loans and own us.

    China is going to have to follow the path of Japan & Germany if they want to become a real economic competitor to the U.S. They can either open up their society & economy, or go the way of the USSR.
