Ken Catalino is a conservative cartoonist who is happiest puncturing balloons filled with the lightweight gas of liberal idealism. This doesn’t prevent him from criticizing conservatives on occasion, if reason and rationality are violated

Is this why Black Friday was the most successful this year? People are glued to their tv’s watching the media harp on the fiscal cliff? I bought Christmas gifts for some kids that aren’t as fortunate as most through my Church. It feels good. Liberals should try spending their own money for others for ONCE in their lives instead of demanding the government take from workers to waste and create dependence.

What I would like to know is when Obama is going to quit campaigning and govern? He won the election, now sit down face to face with the republicans and hash this out. Everybody knows the media releases of what they will or won’t go for, now sit down and work it out! Obama’s legacy is going to end up that he campaigned from 2006 until 2016. All these stupid meetings with CEO’s and going on the road are photo ops. The CEO’s like Jeff Immelt and the Pepsi lady are staunch democratic supporters. Get face to face with the republicans and quit wasting time! I would like to hear a detailed proposal from both sides of this argument to know what the real proposals are. All we hear is rhetoric about I won’t do this or that, but not what they propose as a PACKAGE. They wonder why business and “regular people” are so reticent to spend and plan, that’s why. Nobody knows anything except sound bytes and partisan dialog that is non specific.
Sit down and talk, discuss, compare, argue, compromise, resolve and implement. That was always the general process we followed in business to get something done.

Watch the news, not Fox. The president has been having conferences with businessand Union leaders and daily communications with Congrssional leaders. The House members are sticking firm to the Norquist pledge of not raisiing new revenue except by cutting entitlements and closing loopholes which they aren;t specific about. Norquist, the lobbyist, is proud to say no one isbreaking his pledge.

I live in the USA. and we deserve everything we get. There are people out of work and still we buy imports. We believe in hand outs not hands up. We yell at the rich and we vote them back into office and expect them to tax themselves.

The Republicans are already campaigning for 2014. If you want a compromise, write your Republican Members of Congress. They are still unwilling to trade any tax increase for the spending cuts they want.

@Ima:
Black Friday was a good day for merchants. A better indicator will be from now until Christmas. Will we find out that Black Friday was the only good day of the season? It all comes back to confidence in the economy, and nobody is working to instill that.
@Uncle Joe:
Good luck writing to your congressman. Most times, you will receive a form letter stating, “Always good to hear from my constituents” and that’s it. I know; I’ve been doing it a long time. One of the more frustrating things is trying to write to someone who actually has some power. My local Congressman does whatever Boehner tells him to do; we could save money by not bothering to send him to D.C. or to provide him with staff. His votes are predetermined, and he has survived 20 years in the House without having to do anything. So, when I write to Mr. Boehner, I am told on his website that I can’t communicate with him unless I live in his district. I suppose I could use snail mail, but I’m pretty convinced that would only provide the same non-result with more investment on my part.
This is not specific to Republicans; I have gotten the same response from Ms. Pelosi, and is not specific to the House, either. Maybe we should expect them to be honest and tell us that they just don’t care what we think.

I don’t watch much TV at all, much less fox news. All these daily calls and he said she said is BS. It’s posturing. Closed doors with staff and principals from both sides are the only way this gets resolved. Screw Grover Norquist, he’s a lobbyist and people are walking away from him. Obama is obsessed with campaigning for his positions before we even know what the positions are. So are the republicans. Twenty different people a day are pumping out all this contradictory BS to the media. Sit down and hash it out.

If you invite your congressional to a fundraiser, they will show up. Give them an envelope of $100 bills. They will listen to you for 20 minutes and then leave.

Sheldon Adelson, 12th richest American, has ramped up funding to the Adelson Medical Rearch Foundation(AMRF),In 2008 he was supplying 65 institutions with 167 investigators 125,000 to 400,000 per lab. The money dwindled when his Las Vegas Sands stock prices started to tank. The Obama recovery helped the Las Vegas Sands stock tp recover. Adelson recently supplying about 55 postdoctoral fellowship @ 40,000$ each per year. Over the next two years adding money for collaborative biomedical research.

Rich folks can afford to butter both sides of the bread. Aren’t tax write-offs grand!

I other words, you gave your money to someone else to buy presents for kids.
Ah, Yes, I did see where a church representative had taken over $200,000 meant to go to a toy fund.
