The first time I was shot at was by my fellow American(s) while on riot duty in Baltimore, Md. during the riots following the King assassination. Now that mentality has leached its way down and into the minds of our school children. In my day we had bullying on the play grounds and in the schools but the teacher’s usually resolved the problem; on occasion we settled our differences with a fist fight…that was usually followed by the School Principle administering the Paddle to our dearie-air; problem solved. Today it is apparent that schools must find a better way to get at the “root causes” of bullying and take the appropriate action(s) to (1) resolve the issue of bullying and (2) to assist those who are or have been bullied. A police state within our educational facilities is but a band aide coving a cancer that desperately is in need of a cure and not just treating the systems by use of force.
