   scottfreitas, the left will forever use Bush and Cheney to try to deflect attention from the mess that they, the hypocritical, perverted, immoral nanny state socialists are trying to force on us. As they take away more of our rights, put our country deeper into debt than all the debt our country has had for more than 200 years combined, they do not want people to look too closely at what is happening, so they just pull “Cheney” or “Bush” out of thin air for anything and everything.

   Roger, you are dumb. The US debt was hightest during WWII. It was this massive spending by the government that allow the US to get out of the Great Depression. It would have been quicker had FDR spent more money earlier. The fact is that spending money isnt the issue. As long as you pay it back, then there isnt a problem. AND I would like to add that having a huge public debt is not a problem. The ONLY reason it would be a problem is that the US wouldnt get foreign loans, but that isnt going to happen any time soon. Stop worrying about the debt, debt isnt a problem as long as you can pay it back. Which is totally do able once the US gets out of the wars, and develops some strong exports, such as, green technology, financial services, arms, and services.
   The US government needs to makes sure to tax people to pay it back, and by that I mean rich people. If you make more than 200,000 a year, you should have a tax rate of 45%. People dont need that much money. Money = power and it is the duty of the government to regulate power, that is why it is the government.
   Stop being babies and realize that what Obama is doing is perfectly correct. He is by far the most logically minded politician America has had in a long time.

   ANandy, I disagree with your assesment that it only helped get people employed. Massive government investment is necessary in times of crisis. That was the point i was trying to make. I agree that WWII was not the only thing that helped with the Great Depression, but the large inputs of capital certainly did their part.

    The biggest problem with the “trickle-up” theory, other than that it has never been shown effective, is that the bureaucracy skims half off the top, mostly for pet projects before the money becomes involved in the economy. The platitude that massive government investment is necessary is a fraud, as in order to involve money the government must first sieze it from productive taxpayers, borrow creating debt or print worthless notes creating inflation.

    Again, you are making assumptions about the way that money is utilized by the government. You automatically assume that ANY money used by the government is going to be wasted, or embezzeled. But what you dont realize that private companies only build things that they need. Not what everyone needs. If there is little money put in infrastructure such as roads, power grids and telecommunications then there is little advancement as a state. This is exactly why iraq and afghanistan are two different worlds. Iraq may have been a corrupt dictatorship, but they at least used money to build stuff, which made the invasion and rebuilding much easier (not to say it was easier, but it is certainly going better than in afghanistan). The fact is that government spending to develop infrastructure to facilitate buisiness is the best means of developing an internal industury. This is why America is still and will always be the largest military industrial complex, because during the war the factories where invested in to pump out guns and ammunition, and they continue to do so, giving a pretty hefty slice to the annual GDP. So ANandy, stop demonizing the government by mere fact of being government and see what it really stands for, a tool, to be used to shape and better a country.

    “…can do them self” should be “…can do themselves.”

    “They may of decided” should be “they may HAVE decided.”

    “…have their mind made up” should be “…have their MINDS made up.” They EACH have one; they do not all share one. (Although THAT may be in dispute concerning some of a particular political persuasion.)
