Ken Catalino is a conservative cartoonist who is happiest puncturing balloons filled with the lightweight gas of liberal idealism. This doesn’t prevent him from criticizing conservatives on occasion, if reason and rationality are violated

Elephants do NOT drink through their trunks.(They pick up and shoot it into their mouths.) Dang! I rise in defense of elephants!

DrCanuck - now THAT’S funny.
But seriously …

This might actually work.

nomad, I fail to see how Dr. Gupta’s comments on pot are not applicable also to alcohol or tobacco. Would not decriminalization and regulation similar to what we do with those substances be a better approach to our drug problems?

The $1.5 trillion cost of socializing American medicine - paid for largely by increasing taxes and decreasing Medicare and Medicaid benefits - is only one reason why you should be concerned about Obamacare.
The reality of what health care will look like if this reform package passes is even more frightening.
You may have heard of Shona Holmes, a Canadian woman who almost went blind waiting for brain surgery in that country’s nationalized health system.
Ms. Holmes was diagnosed with a brain tumor in Canada but was told she would have to wait 4-6 months in order to see a specialist. She was fortunate enough to be able to travel to Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic, where private practitioners were able to more accurately diagnose her tumor within a week and eventually saved her sight.
What if you were gravely ill? Would you want to wait months to see a doctor when your health is on the line? Under the health care plan proposed by House Democrats and endorsed by President Obama, this could become a reality.
Obamacare removes the freedom of Americans to choose from a wide range of health care coverages and medical providers. The government would provide a list of approved plans, and if your doctor chooses not to participate in this coverage, you (and they) are out of luck.

elephants don’t snort beer but they cool off their trunks when necessary in whatever is available

Plan–there is no plan; just an idea with no plan to reform.
fennec said, 3 months ago
Howie, where is your info backing up this assertion?
nomad2112 said, 3 months ago
fennec - no for two reasons.
2 .Since we can’t teach children right from wrong in school at least we can tell them that pot’s illegal.
Gladius said, 3 months ago
Yeah,
Like that works nomad. When I taught HS my students had an easier time getting pot than alcohol. Most of them felt that the law was ridiculous. Yup, we really instilled a fear of the law there.
nomad2112 said, 3 months ago
Yeah, I guess your right. Then I have your support for repealing all hand gun laws?

Get them drunk enough they’ll agree to anything.
Of course, don’t think that beer is the only tool that they use.
There’s money, power, and influence they use all the time to manipulate.
Gladius said, 3 months ago
There are still alcohol laws nomad, to control access. Therefore, I support gun ownership, subject to control. Just as I support legalization of pot, subject to taxation and control.
parkersinthehouse said, 3 months ago
it’s a little different with legalizing marijuana - controlling and taxing it could be useful. weed, however has never caused the wreckage that guns have caused.
we have gun laws subject to control now, but where’s the control? automatic weapons are practically free.
dtroutma said, 3 months ago
Parker, I must correct a tad, automatic weapons and the taxes to keep them are quite expensive. What folks just can’t understand is the SEMI-automatic weapons that are readily available at much lower cost, are far more accurate, and far more deadly in “trained” hands. It is the large capacity clips and magazines that make them so much more dangerous for even the “untrained” to possess with evil intent. Rate of fire is NOT THE DANGER , it is the volume of fire that can be put out.
Current “gun control” in the U.S., is (overall) actually more like herding cats on PCP, despite what the NRA would have us believe.
Gladius said, 3 months ago
I did say subject to control. Since I was responding to nomad who probobly has trouble with any control I didn’t think I needed to add that current regulations could use some modification.
nomad2112 said, 3 months ago
Sorry Parker but, I’m fairly sure that more people have died because of idiots driving under the influence than have died from guns.
fennec said, 3 months ago
And your point is???
nomad2112 said, 3 months ago
My point is that weed has caused the wreckage that guns have caused and quite possible more.
DrCanuck said, 3 months ago
That’s quite interesting, nomad; may I examine your data?
