I was named after my father, yet my mother’s father also had my name, and my mom’s mom had the feminine version of my middle name.
My mom’s mom’s father was named William Filatreu Willard, and his middle name honored his grandfather, Peter Filatreu Cross, who was mentioned by full name in this strip on March 14, 2013.

My grandfather, who shared a birthdate with President Lincoln, often said -with a straight face – that he was named after Lincoln. Their names had NOTHING in common; it was just the Lincoln was named before he was.

Perhaps, people were more straight forward when asked such a question a hundred years ago or more.

My paternal grandmother, bless her soul, who died of TB in 1898 before my dad was two, was named “Minerva America [last name].” My dad wanted to give me both names, but had to settle for “Minerva” as a middle name after my mom objected. I didn’t care for that name because kids used to tease me about it, and was glad to lose it when I got married. I wouldn’t mind if that much now, though.

Old Joe Walker must be feeding Mr. Ed, of course.

Go right to the source and ask the horse
He’ll give you the answer that you’ll endorse.
He’s always on a steady course.
    Talk to Mr. Ed.

Hillary Clinton said she was named after Edmund Hillary – which leaves in question what she was called all those years before the then obscure NZ beekeeper climbed Everest….

Which Joseph in the Bible? There’re two big names and at least one smaller name.
