count your blessings, kid. I don’t know the exact statistics, but there’s a very small percentage of stolen bikes that are actually recovered. the cops have bigger fish to fry, plus even when a stolen bike is actually found, there’s usually no way to identify the original owner.

I have had 9 bikes stolen from me over the years. The first one or two I didn’t record the serial numbers, so the cops said ’can’t help you." I recorded the serial numbers after that. Haven’t heard anything back about those bikes. The last two stolen from me I knew who did it, I told the cops, their reaction “Oh this sounds like a civil matter to us, go after them in small claims court.” These are the same cops who when they were told of a bicycle chop shop—REPEATEDLY!—couldn’t be bothered to do anything until the local newspaper reported the criminals and the police ‘response.’ The police took prompt action; they criticized the guy who had followed the thieves to the chop shop for doing so, then claimed that by reporting the crime the newspaper risked interfering in an ’ongoing investigation." Asking a Winnipeg City cop for help is like trying to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and annoys the pig.

You do realize that “pig” is slang for cop, right?

Anyway, the only “ongoing investigation” there should be is of the police department itself. I think there’s a lot of housecleaning to be done!

What really ticks me off is when kids repeatedly leave their bicycles out near the street and cry when their bikes are stolen, then the parents or G-parents immediately go out and buy them a brand new one!

Software like this is why I still have a dumb phone. At least on the web I can ignore the ads.

I’m glad Sunny found his bike, maybe from now on he’ll take better care of it

Sorry. The police have more important things to deal with than some hipster who apparently can’t figure out that if you do not secure your belongings, some roaming theif will take it.
