    There was a week’s worth of comics wherein he explained that he doesn’t squash spiders. Why would thay be included?

    sorry, phatts, they’re not bugs & not all insects are bugs. bugs are 1 of several classes of insects (flies, beetles, etc). spiders are arthropods (8 legs), not insects.

    Insects, arachnids, & crustaceans are all arthropods. You’re right about bugs being a subcategory of insect, though.

    True bugs are those insects that belong to order hemiptera, which includes things like stink bugs, cinch bugs, assassin bugs, bedbugs, etc. Beetles and flies are not true bugs, belonging to order coleoptera and diptera, respectively. Bugs, beetles, and flies are all insects. Spiders, mites, ticks, and scorpions are arachnids. Insects and arachnids are all arthropods, as are millipedes, centipedes, crustaceans, etc.

    They are all arthropods and they eat insects.

    @Meg

    “Bugs” is a colloquial word for any “creepy crawly” usually some small arthropods.

    No kidding. That’s why I used the term “true bugs”, to indicate I was speaking technically, not colloquially.
