Ever been hit by a Chambers or Concise Oxford dictionary? Believe me, they hurt.

Words do far more harm than any physical injury. Physical injuries heal but the agony of emotional abuse never really goes away. Entire lives have been ruined and even destroyed because of the things people say.

Is your name John Vanbiesbrouck? He was a goalie in the National Hockey League with a very long and hard-to-spell name!

No it is not true! Imagine being called jerk, dummy, ratface, loser, and other such ‘terms of endearment" for months on end, then ask yourself, do you honestly think it wouldn’t hurt? If you can say no, you’re lying to yourself. As for the defense that it’s only a comic, I take nothing back; there is nothing funny about bullies and bullying. “Names will never hurt me”??? What a pissant piece of malarkey!

One contestant on primetime “Who wants to be a millionaire” had the name Gus Papadopoulis. I’ve never forgotten that name.

Sticks and stones may break our bones but names will break our hearts.
