Bravo. This cartoon speaks directly to my own thoughts on this subject. Maybe I’m just an old softy with a terminal case of (gasp!) empathy, but I simply cannot disregard the millions of Americans who work hard and follow all the rules they’re told they need to follow, yet STILL wind up being ruined financially, physically and / or mentally by the types of situations described here.

Just heard a story (from our traveling teacher/storyteller friend from Tinian) about Chinese medicine, back to about 3000-4000BC; the village doctor got paid as long as you were well. It was a tiny stipend, from everybody in the village. When you got sick, your payment stopped until you were well again.
Does that strike you as an incentive?

dsped, pbarnrob, I agree with your comments totally. I went to work as an RN for the commonwealth of Pa. more than 30 years ago to get health coverage that my husband and I could not afford with him working as a self employed farmer. I know a family that is self employed that pays $400 a month for health insurance. How is that affordable?
