Very nice. I was just a kid then. We were visiting the St. Louis Zoo listening to it on the radio. Then we went home and watched Walter Cronkite tell us all about it. Sorry he just missed this day.

I set up my then new Pentax Spotmatic on a tripod. Used a close up lens and took screen shots. I still have the slides, but my kids were never interested in ancient history, besides I can’t find a new projector bulb on the net. One ebay store had pictures of it but sent the wrong item.

Hey, oldlegodad, there are services that will digitally scan your slides.

My parents woke me up to watch Mr. Armstrong jump onto the landing platform and walk on the moon. Uncle Walter’s voice still echoes in my ears.

I’m surprised the anti-science, anti-authority posters haven’t complained that this was all a liberal lie and we filmed this in a back lot.

I watched the landing on a tiny screen on a guy’s portable TV(battery operated), we were in range of a repeater, and in the high Sierra. It still stands out in my mind how technology was already changing us.

And oldie, my Nikon digital has an attachment that I can digitize all my old slides, and correct them with Photoshop. You might check it out for archiving your old slides.

Technology-can’t find a projector bulb, but more likely to get “upgraded” formats??

I was home from college, watching it with my family. We were all very excited.

I was drunk in San Francisco, waiting to go back to Viet Nam. Some parking valet had it on his pocket transistor radio, and I was frantically looking for a TV among the strip clubs. HAH!

And thank you, Walter! Now Jon Stewart (Daily Show on Comedy Central) takes up the mantle of ‘Most Trusted News Anchor’, per NPR.
