    If deregulation was the cause, why were banks pressured to make risky loans to unqualified people? They could have made safer decisions w/o Acorn and CRA breathing down their necks. Think about it…if you want to stay in business, do you deal with customers who pay their bills? Yes? Gee, it even makes sense…

    momsaid… the bad loans were an issue, but a small part of it. The CRA resulted in 1/4 of the bad loans. There was a study done that demonstrates that the banks putting CRA loans out there were much more responsible in their lending methods than commercial banks lending to regular people.

    The much larger and UNREGULATED aspect of the meltdown, was that bad mortgages were bundled, sold, repackaged, hedged, rehedged, reverse-hedged and banks were leveraging debt at a 60 to 1 ratio.
