    Senate bill S.649 needs to be scrapped along with the its modifications to other laws and rewritten in a thoughtful manner that doesn’t create more problems than its supposed to solve.

    It seems to me that there is a lot of whistling past the graveyard going on here. The Senate bill would have actually weakened many state gun laws but was still a nonstarter. The thing is that this puts Senate Republicans on the wrong side of 90+% of the American public. Under these circumstances how long can the status quo be maintained? It should be worth noting that there was a time not so long ago when the tobacco industry was considered untouchable.

    This is a blatant knock off from an earlier cartoon by another artist. I wish I could remember who it was but there have been too many.

    I wonder if they use the same standards to calculate the ‘90%’ that they use to calculate un-employment? Like throwing out those opions that do not match their definition.

    The only part of the current bill before congress that has the 90% support of the public is the backround check. Many of the provisions in this bill are actually opposed.

    Ms. Ima, obviously you have never had a member of your family or circle of friends killed by a gun. When that happens you can spout your ignorance. I’m a liberal (dictionary definition, favorable to progress or reform) and it’s obvious you are not a liberal. Nor are you ready to actually speak of truth in relationship to mass safety.

    Liberals have STILL not been able to explain how this new gun legislation would have been effective since criminals don’t exactly put themselves THROUGH a background check before they get a gun to commit a crime.

    Re: Ms. Ima: “Libs” (i.e., thinking, feeling human beings) will “go waa-waa” as long people continue to be killed by irresponsible gun use. Get used to it.

    BTW: When did you stop caring?

    And how would a gun law that criminals bypass have kept Gabrielle from being shot by a madman?

    That’s right!
    Of course, we also have laws against making bombs. Obviously, those laws have now been shown to be ineffective and should be abolished.

    @Harry Neuman

    Harry, you need to read the entire bill. It’s 44 pages long with only a few pages devoted to backround checks (I’m part of that ninety percent). Parts of the rest are a mess and I found two sections that would encourage the establishment of criminal enterprises by unscrupulous gun shop owners (who would probably get caught if they got too greedy) and/or organized crime (who would have the money, expertise, and contacts to pull it off). I’m not even sure if the authors of this bill realize what they wrote. It needs to be scrapped and a bill passed with just the backround checks in it with one provision removed. Then, look at the other provisions and see what can be done.

    Dear Comrade Ahab: Yes, do listen to someone who has been shot – ME. The Democrats’ bill is a steaming pile of crap. We have plenty of gun laws". ENFORCE THEM.

    Dear Comrade Deering: The NRA is less than 5 million people, thousands of whom do not own guns. American gun owners are over 100 million. But left fringers like yourself believe the NRA is IT. Your ignorant of the existance of the Second Amendment Foundation, Gun Owners of America, Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership. And y’asll believe the NRA has more money than the billionaires like George Soros, Al Gore, etc. who support garbage bills like this one.

    I’ve had a family member killed by a gun, it happened in January 1984 in the parking lot of the Downtown Atlanta Hilton. She had completed her shift at the Hotel My 2nd eldest sister was walking to her car when her estranged husband who happened to be with The Georgia State Crime Commission, (Special State Police Officer for Georgia) shot and killed my sister, he then turned the gun on himself and died 2 hours later in surgery. I do not want to deny anyone their right to own a legally gun if they so desire. I do not want to deny anyone the right legally obtain a conceal/carry permit if their State allows this action.
    No, she did nothing wrong except be promoted to a Higher level position with the Hilton Hotel Chain it was her last day in Atlanta, she was being transferred to Jekyll Island where she would have been manager of sales for the all the Hilton Hotels along Georgia’s Southern Cost.

    @Mr. King

    Quit blaming Conservatives when it was Liberal Harry Reid who said there would have to be a 60 vote Super Majority to pass the bill instead of a simple majority. Harry Reid is the one who blocked Obama’s agenda, not Conservatives.
