Yep, eight months to make it all right. Well, excuse me, fix it, as the right has been responsible for the mess.

Before you argue about this look back over the past 8 years, look at what the Republican Party is currently doing, look at the polices, plans, and ideas they have offered in the past 8 months, and honestly ask yourself; “Would I really be better off now if they had been left in office?”

No because McCain would be dead by now and SHE would be POTUS…a nightmare even for me oldrightofgoldwater.

    OLD SOVIET JOKE

Moscow, 1953. Stalin calls in Khrushchev. “Niki, I’m dying. Don’t have much to leave you. Just three envelopes. Open them, one at a time, when you get into big trouble.”

A few years later, first crisis. Khrushchev opens envelope 1: “Blame everything on me. Uncle Joe.”

A few years later, a really big crisis. Opens envelope 2: “Blame everything on me. Again. Good luck, Uncle Joe.”

Third crisis. Opens envelope 3: “Prepare three envelopes.”

Take a look at that joke, and realize that Stalin is passing power on to someone in his own party, there is no change in government, the same party is in charge.

When we complain, and try to remind people, about the last 8 years under the Republicans we are reminding them of the fact that to go back to the Republicans is to return to those old policies that lead to war, a ruined economy, and a divided nation.

Republicans may not want to admit it, but what the people voted for was CHANGE.

The Republicans had 8 years, they screwed up, now accept it, or shut up.

The Republicans never shut up. They throw up road blocks and keep hoping for another shot of power. Forget what might actually benefit the average citizen. At least now we have a chance at health care reform and green energy job creation.

I know this will be hard for liberals to follow, but please bear with me.

Since 1933 (FDR), there have been 39 different 2 year terms of the House of Representatives.

Of those 39 times, 31X the Democarats controlled the House. 29 of the 39 they controlled the Senate. 28X they controlled the House AND the Senate. 17X they controlled the House AND Senate AND Presidency.

Republicans controlled the House 8X and the Senate 10X. They controlled the House and Senate just 3X. (Those same 3X they also controlled the Presidency)

(Of those two year periods, Democrats were President 21of 39X, Repubs 18X. That’s close enough to give a push. But remember, Presidents don’t make law, Congress does.)

So how do Democrats look at all the problems over the last 80 years, and get away with blaming it on Republicans?

We don’t, church. We’ve referred explicitly, for example, to the G.W. Bush Administration, when the White House and the Congress were GOP-controlled for six of the eight years, and the Democrats were supine the last two.

The Republicans want us to forget about the last 8 years so that they can repeat it.

Elect you once and you screw up – shame on you.

Elect you twice so you can screw up - shame on us.

MOTIVE: We already know the libs here blame all the world’s problems on Bush. That is a given. The cartoon, on the other hand, gives examples going back 60 years, not 8. Of course if I were the cartoonist, I would have added even more things that the left blames on the right… Poverty, homelessness, obesity… the list goes on and on. All blamed on Republicans in general, and the last 8 years of Bush in particular. It is simply not truthful. Democrats have been in charge for the vast amount of time, and they have never fixed ANYTHING!

And Democrats had 8 years before that, American politics( or voters) are like a pendulum it will swing to one side then reverse course to the other side.

As long as economics are the primary issue the Dems will win the next election. If the primary issue becomes national security I.E. another massive terror attack the GOP will win.

    LANDSHARK:
    1) Yes, politics is cyclical
    2) If the term “misery index” makes a comeback in the American lexicon (see Carter, James Earl “Jimmy” Jr., one term president), Obama will join everyone else in the unemployment line.

churchill, I’m just saying I don’t blame all problems on Republicans. I’ve criticized a number of Democrats explicitly or implicitly in these posts, including the last one I posted above! Happy to kvetch about one or another (currently I have my hate on for Woodrow Wilson).
But the cartoon – to your point – is NOT about the Republicans versus Democrats. It just says we have problems going back a long way that are more part of America than either party – and frankly, neither party has solved any of them!
