Don’t forget “financial meltdown drill”, but that is held at home i guess, because next time around there will no longer be any public schools…

Since congress is looking in the wrong direction to prevent gun violence, there will be more.

In a civilized nation, a truly civilized nation, children should be able to grow up without unreasonable fears. They should be able to learn and play in and environment where they aren’t afraid that the adults in their lives will be unable to protect them, or worse, might harm them. I was fortunate to live in civilized communities where natural disasters were the only threats and bad things happened in big cities where children sometimes were shot by accident. Then I learned that sometimes, children were killed by their own parents in my own home town, and the deaths were always ‘accidental’.
Children learn as they live, and if you do not raise a generation of children who have a sense of loyalty and belonging to their society, then they will become adults who will vote away your health care, and when you turn a certain age, you won’t be allowed medical care if you can’t afford it.
If you don’t care for them, why should they care for us?
    Respectfully,
    C.

As Sm52 said , and RT , Deerflat , the left has approached gun violence totally bass ackwards. States/Cities with more gun laws have more gun crime – that is fact. Let the socialists come for my guns , I would rather die on my feet fighting for what I believe in than serve that which I don’t on my knee’s!

Many countries with more gun controls have less gun crime. How does that fit into your equation?
Socialist are not coming after your guns, anyway. This is a fantasy, not a real threat.

WRONG!!!!! It proves that the use of “gun control = higher murder/crime rates” is fallacious at best, Even you admitted to that, that is unless "your statement means nothing [and] …is only 1/2 the truth.

No credible “liberal” has ever advocated confiscating all guns. They have always advocated the one thing you RWNJs, owned by the No Responsibilities Accepted, refuse to accept. Accountability and responsibility in gun ownership.

Of course the way to protect the children is to take away the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens… after all the PTOs are filled with them

Your all a bunch of bone heads! We should use commons sense and have a license process that requires training in the the weapon system the person want to have, just like cars, trucks, heavy equipment. Plus that allows a evaluation that the person applying is not mentally incompetent. Then to own you have to have insurance in case the owner ends up being a negligent bone head. This will allow the market to help in determine where a loss is likely to happen. Companies won’t insure someone who appears to be a risk. This would leave us with a private/government partnership that you qualify in training allows you to operate that weapon system and you can own any weapon system you have a licence for and can get insured for, barring military level weapon systems.

Think about it, would you want a well intended neighbor to have a semi truck drive it around your neighborhood with kids in the street who has never had training in operating one and is uninsured? How about an AR-15?

Hmmm, it’s obvious first off, that all deer are SOCIALISTS, and therefore, MUST DIE!

But to the point: EVERY “test” of what would happen if more guns were in classrooms, even held by trained police officers, has proven the death and injury toll would INCREASE DRAMATICALLY!

Hmm, as to the being shot thing: after the initial shock wears off, it hurts like Hell!!! People shot do NOT lie calmly back and ask for a cigarette, and talk philosophically about the use of firearms. (My own experience was actually only when my brother, the jerk, shot me in the buttock with a .22 short, and it hit my wallet first, so didn’t do as much damage as it could, but, JEES it HURT!) I treated many people years later with far more serious injuries, so was sympathetic!

and finally: regulation is NOT confiscation. I firmly believe all persons acquiring firearms should first have to pass a review at least as thorough as my state’s concealed carry permit: background check-thorough, proof you’ve learned the ETHICAL use of firearms and the law, and shown at least some level of proficiency with weapons. And yes, LICENSE firearms owners, as New Zealand does, with “options” for registering weapons, so they can be traced, and owners will be more careful about who has access to those weapons, and will report if they are “stolen”.

I wanted to take some time and say this right. I am in no way advocating a lawless society , many of these posts are very good on both sides of this issue. In as much as I and others want to keep our guns I can understand why so many including myself want an end to the senseless violence which has become a part of everyday life in this country , much of it involving guns. I don’t see as either side of this debate can be considered " correct or incorrect" it is a matter of opinion. Laws that might be needed in more urban areas such as the east coast or Chicago just don’t fit areas like Montana , Wyoming or even Iowa. I feel each state should be responsible for their own gun laws and registration. Many good suggestions have been made in the above posts , most call for more laws ,red tape , politicking and with all that comes loopholes that criminals will schlepp through as they always do. I’m not saying I have any answers , I just want to keep my freedoms. Laws don’t stop criminals!

Which post? If you are referring to my second one, not i said “credible liberal” just as there are radical extremist republicans/conservatives with whom thought is not a prerequisite, there are also radical extremist Democrats who advocated total gun confiscation, but there has been no credible liberal, unless you know someone. So i challenge you to either prove I lied or apologize. Otherwise you’re just another ridiculous loser RWNJ who can’t refute the message so you attack the messenger.

“Chicago has Strict Gun Laws and also has one of the highest rates of Gun Deaths per year. That is fact, so mskemle is correct”
I won’t dispute your fact or statistic but you also do not acknowledge that the rest of Illinois has lax gun laws. It’s kind of like a smoking section in a restaurant. Even with smoke control measures in place, smoke will still permeate the air in the non-smoking section. Or how you pee in the pool and it will spread throughout the entire pool. It won’t stop at any artificial border. This fact has also been raised many times. So what are you going to do, admit to and accept this truth or ignore it because it does not play well with the false point you are trying to make with your selective fact?
