Chavez nationalized the oil corporations to use the money for his country. We still buy their oil.
We have been bullying tiny Cuba for what, 60 years now?
We’re the greatest, we’re the best people on the planet, we’re really swell. And Cuba and Venezuela are still in our sphere of influence so they better do as we say or pay the price.

Cuba’s a different animal compared to Venezuela. They’ve always had commie support (Cuban Missle Crisis) and have been untouchable. Even if that old goat dies it’ll be business as usual.

Yep, Pinochet in Chile and the generals in Argentina were real right-wing princes and care-givers. Chavez WAS a putz, but he actually did more for Americans who couldn’t afford heating oil at ’company prices", than BP, Exxon, or Shell. It was also those awful “lefties” in the States who read the Constitution where it says “promote the general welfare”, and took action to actually keep Americans alive.

From the days of President Monroe until the days of Fidel Castro, when a Latin American head of state (usually, but not always, a dictator) announced that he was nationalizing American properties, the US sent the Marines to install a different dictator who would guarantee American property rights. Then Fidel took over Cuba, and got a Soviet nuclear umbrella that kept the US Marines out.

That Soviet umbrella was blown away in ‘91, but the US President’s hands are tied by the Cuban vote that controls several swing states.

Now that the Soviets are gone, and sending in the Marines to take over Cuba is possible, the president won’t send them because then he wouldn’t have Cuba as a club to keep the Cuban voters in line.

So the president needs to prop us some commie to follow Raul. It’s just elementary electoral politics.

“If you do, you are buying beer made by a Socialist Belgium Company, InBev.”

Do you buy insurance of any kind? If you do, you are participating in socialism. Insurance is the very definition of socialism. Everyone pays into the pot, and you only get some of it if someone decides you deserve it. If you don’t need it, it’s gone to someone else.

So, is socialism as universally horrible as some posters opine?

You gotta love the USA, bashing a dead man, saying no elections when at the same time discussing how short it was after election he fell ill. A near complete delusion to the rest of the world and such a self stroking ego that it is surprising it doesn’t burn
