Unlikely. Back in the early 1970’s I left a box of candy by the front door with a sign saying “take one.” I had to go to the store for a half hour. When I got back the box and sign were gone and they broke the porch light. I never handed out anything for halloween again.

It’s a sweet idea, but do you really think it would work??

Believe it or not, for some of then, too young to really comprehend what happened and why, YES, that could be EXACTLY what they need.
A touch of normality and childhood in a VERY hard time.

All you Liberals prove why socialism doesn’t work.

Stop screaming about socialism and start taking some responsibility for the society you live in. Government has a role in communities, it has a responsibility to it’s citizens in times of crisis. It is up to the people of this country to regulate what that role is. Unfortunately right-wingers like yourself don’t like it when government helps anybody but themselves. You would have us back to the days when people were forced to live in tenements, barely able to survive while a few extremely wealthy individual en rough-shod over everyone else. That is not progress. Look back to hsitory and why anti-trust laws were enacted.

Based on my experience, here’s how it would work:
Kids under the age of 3 wouldn’t understand the concept of giving, but could be cajoled into giving a piece of candy.
Kids of roughly 4 to 10 (12?) would gladly give a piece or two and feel great. Some would even give their favorite candy, others the stuff they didn’t like.
The some self-righteous fat guy will scream that by giving candy to the less fortunate you are depriving them of the opportunity to earn their own candy. He will then steal the pot and give the candy to other fat guys. and fire the parents who allow such foolishness.

Or the current administration would take it all away bacuse they think it will make children obese and they nead to make sure things are being handled properly and held up to the health safety standards. We can’t have people do for others because it is the role of the government.

Show me a socialist country that is as prosperous as the US.

As for me personally taking responsibility – I give more to charity and more effectively on my own than any Liberal I know. The more I am taxed, the less I have to give, and the government is full of bloat, red tape and mismanagement. Just look at all the programs and the mistakes and waste caused by huge bureaucracy .
The government is not the most efficient way to give to the needy.
If Liberals need to have someone take their money and give it to the needy because they won’t otherwise, then develop a plan for that.
Studies show that Republicans give more to charity than Liberals.

I find it difficult to believe you get to know liberals. I find it more difficult to believe that you track their charity work.

If you use Ansonia’s yardstick for what would be considered ‘Socialist’, then we could add most of Scandinavia, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand and probably quite a few more countries.

It’s MItt’s house, and he plans to start up a candy store tomorrow, just obtaining his “stock” option.

“And some liberal will cry his kid is not getting hisher fair share and grab someone’s who has more.”
Some might, but most would not.
