Since 1987, readers have adored the remarkably quiet adventures of Jim as recorded in his daily journal. His work has been collected in several books, including the bestselling "I Went To College and it was okay." Jim's day-to-day meta-observations are penned with little more than stick figures, scribbles, and a few words, but his minimalism speaks volumes.

I was watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Yokota Air Base, and the last reel was in Spanish. Many people left in the middle of the reel, but those who stayed did get free tickets. Then at Ramstein, while watching Mystery Men, about half-way through, the film melted. That was a first. It was cool seeing melting film on a movie screen.

Wow! I was at Yokota in 1973-74; Bruce Lee flicks were the fave. All films went off without a hitch.

Shaft movies were very popular at Fort Knox around that time.
