Russia has more than 100,000 security personnel around Sochi. (Which means the terrorists will be attacking other targets in Russia.)

Corruption, cost overruns, and Mafia involvement happen everywhere, not just Russia.

The Russian anti-gay laws are much more lenient that the laws in America’s BFF Saudi Arabia.

And a man could be born in Austria, go to school in Poland, work in the Soviet Union, and retire in the Ukraine, all without ever leaving his village. After WWI, they had self-determination, and Orthodox Russian speakers chose to join the CCCP; unOrthodox Ukrainian speakers chose to be part of Poland. Then, during WWII, all those who hated the CCCP were re-annexed back into it. Finally, Ukraine got independence. Now the half of the population descended from those who wanted to be out of the CCCP want to be part of Western Europe, while the half of the population descended from those who wanted to stay in the CCCP want to be allied with Russia. No matter what, half the population will be furious. And that’s Stalin’s fault, not Putin’s.

just a little heads up on your comment ( which I did not read) I don’t think most people bother reading long stories on the comments, try to keep it short.

I read or not depending on content, some posts do not get read regardless of length if they are posted by one of the more ignorant commentators.
    .
Michael wme and respectful Troll, not to mention I Play one on TV always get read. As do others.

Upon seeing the avatars of Harleyquinn or Doctor Warbucks, these get skipped even if very short. As do a few others.

This depends on ones intellectual capacity…
Conservatives wish to remain ignorant and will limit themselves to one-liners…

    @Michael wme,
The Ukraine was the sight of one of Stalin’s worst massacres – long before World War 2 – with the experiment in collectivizing Soviet agriculture. The divisions there have very little to do with what language might be spoken, since Ukrainian and “Great Russian” come from the same root language, with Ukrainian retaining aspirates, while Great Russian does not.
    ^
The use of the word, “choice”, is much abused when attempting to describe the breach between Orthodox Christianity and Roman Uniatism. And it is far less a matter of religious, or linguistic, difference than it is one of a very distinct, and rather unique, Nationalism that lies at the root of the current dispute over which direction the Ukraine prefers to look for future growth, development, and solution to its problems.
    ^
Putin’s “fault” lies in the Great Russian premise that ALL Slavic peoples should – or even MUST – look towards Moscow as their “cultural/ethnic/political/religious/et.al.” form of “home base”. At root, “The Land Along Side” – i.e., the “Ukraine”, considers itself to be “first”, regarding Russia as very much a form of “usurper”, rather than as “THE BIG BROTHER” that Great Russia asserts itself to be.
    ^
Also, the West is seen to be far more stabile, and as having a record of far, Far, FAR more consistency in keeping promises; Putin’s Russia not being regarded very highly as an outstanding example of either promise or performance, both historically and currently.

I’m with Stipple on this one. However, i would not look to the avatar alone. That ima thing kept changing its avatar. gore bain has a person falling to the death from the twin towers as an avatar.

Doctor Warbucks said, “Mitt Romney,…would have been elected president if we had strong Voter ID laws in place….”

Agreed. I, too, wish we had stronger laws to keep the riff-raff from voting.

What we really need is this……………………….
Election/campaign finance reform (no more buying of elections)
Campaign reform (no more campaigns longer than 20 days)
mandatory voting AND with the option “none of the above” .
No more propaganda and lying AND phony debates..
Voter ID – to speed up the process primarily and stop fraud secondary.
The elimination of “riff-raff” thru enhanced education…this alone may take another 20 years to complete….
We have our work cut out !
Its a bloody mess, now…and only 40% voting..

Exit polls proved that GW Bush actually lost both elections and only won by cheating.
