    Shouldn’t the white guy have a gun?

    No, sometimes the Black Guy has a gun. The difference is he gets sent up for life if he’s not killed in the process of being “detained”!

    Shouldn’t the black guy be beating up the white guy?

    Since “stand your ground” wasn’t an issue in the trial, I don’t understand why the editorial cartoonists keep bringing it up.

    In a non-stand your ground state, when you follow someone and kill them, even though you had the ability to walk away, it’s murder. It’s only self defense if you’re trapped by an assailant with no opportunity to leave, or in your own home.

    Nothing wrong with having a firearm. Yet we have hundreds of thousands of gang bangers all over this nation that have illegally owned weapons. Yet Liberals are OK with this, and the law abiding person cannot be armed, even after going through all the hoops and rigamarole that the Libs like to put in the way.

    And remember that Mr. Zimmerman’s father is Caucasian, his mother is Peruvian. He is half-“white” just as our President is.

    @ARodney

    ARod, do you think having someone sitting on your chest pummeling you “MMA Style” or slamming your head into a concrete sidewalk a situation one has the ability to “walk away from”?

    Those are the “facts” in evidence.

    What say you?

    @Genome Project

    There are currently 31 states with “stand your ground” laws – or a similar law – and 3 more with legislation in the works.

    If you confront me – regardless of why – and then start punching me, I’m going to fight back with every available weapon at my disposal.

    If you confront me and want to talk about it. Well, that’s a different kettle of fish and I will use any diplomatic skill I possess to calm the situation and move one.

    You reap what you sow.

    The trial is over, and a jury could not find Zimmerman guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. That’s the way it is, and I think we should move on. But it seems pretty clear to me that race is still a potent issue in the US. Assuming that everyone has good will (quite an assumption, but let’s start there), how do people move forward? Shouting and blaming?

    I do not have a problem with background checks. nice of you to assume otherwise though.

    He should be allowed concealed carry if he does not have a conviction that disallows it.

    I see you have Nantucket in your tagname – I may assume that you live in Massachusetts. You would perhaps be aware that in order to purchase a firearm in Mass., you need an LTC. You need an FID car to even buy mace, pepper spray. stun guns, or tasers.

    It takes 3-6 months to get your LTC or FID card renewed. First the local police chief has to sign off on it (good luck getting that done in Boston.) Then it goes to Chelsea where the state performs a background check that literally takes 15 minutes. Yet it takes 3 months for them to get it back to the local police department so you can actually get the LTC or FID.

    Yet I can walk down certain streets in Fitchburg, Lowell, Lynn, or Worcester and easily buy a firearm. Criminal do not care

    Oh yes, and when you actually want to buy a firearm, in addition to all of this, you still have to have a PIN and go through another state check when you get the weapon. So 3 background checks, of the same information are done.

    But you knew that didn’t you.

    In New Hampshire, the town police chief has 2 weeks to perform the exact same background check as is done in Massachusetts, and has to PROVE that you are not acceptable for the permit to carry concealed.

    Vermont does not even have a law requiring a permit for a weapon.

    The only purchases that do not require a background check are those made between two individuals, whether it be at a gun show or between father and son.

    Buying online? Still has to be shipped to a dealer with a FFL. Still bound by the same laws as the other background checks.

    How would you get the undocumented guns from the criminals who had stolen them or from an illegal source? Ask the criminals to please come in and hand them in no questions asked? The problem with you and the liberals is you believe that a gun policy will automatically get all guns out of the criminals hands. It only works on law abiding citizens as they follow the law and criminals don’t, hence the word criminal.

    I wish people could “walk in each others shoes” for a while. That would probably be the best thing for our society and communities.
