Appeal to a declining demographic; die out with the declining demographic.

Don’t forget, Dumbo learned to fly. The Dem’s have the ability to elevate the R’s back to a higher position.
    ^
For example- Despite a 40% increase to the VA budget over the last 4 years, the back log of veterans waiting for benefits has gone from 11k in 2009 to 240k+ now. The main cause is because despite computers everywhere in the gov’t, the VA is still using paper records AND…the computers used by the VA DO NOT COMMUNICATE to the computers used by the Dept of Defense. It was compared to playing the same game on two gaming platforms, but the platforms are competitors so they won’t talk to each other. A tv personality described this as criminal and I agree.
    ^
Mr. Obama has addressed many of the social issues his base wants, but on the really important issues on which this nation depends – jobs, deficits, infrastructure, and taking care of our veterans – many more – he is failing.
If independents continue to feel nothing is being done, if liberals feel there is no sense in going to the polls, and of course, if states continue to change election laws making it harder for the minorities, the poor, the elderly, and students to vote…we may see that elephant pull up at ground level and soar well above the Dems.
    ^
Mr. Obama has the chance to snatch defeat from the jaws of his 2012 victory and see 2014 be the year the R’s get the majority they want in the Senate. All he has to do is fail to lead. And all good liberal and moderate voters need to do is…not vote.
    Respectfully,
    C.

Though a proud son of New England, I grew up in the South. They’re not all bad. Some of our more notable patriots and freethinkers were Southerners as well.
Most Southern politicians these days though are really amazingly crappy. I miss people like Sam Ervin and Terry Sanford…

Without the US government, the southern states (really the southern states’ governments) are essentially like any other third world country: indifferent to the poor (except sometimes in church), ready to roll on almost anything to bring any kind of business—however dirty or dangerous—within their borders, stuck in long-dismissed religious superstitions and completely out of line politically with the racial makeup of their population. And to top it off, the place is swimming with enough arms and ammunition to fight a war.

I used to wonder why Mexicans, Central American, Asians, etc. would want to live there and I ultimately realized that it must remind them of home.

Dycel, you misunderstand. I am not blaming, I am warning. Your reply is generally one to which I can agree. Please remember it was the failure of Mr. Obama’s base and cynical independents to vote in 2010 that caused the D’s to lose so many seats. A majority they still lacked after 2012.
    ^
I hope people will look at how R’s are changing the message without changing the behaviors, but too many people are willing to believe something is true because they WANT it to be true and it sounds good. That is why at the end of my “Warning”, not blame, I express my concern that liberals and moderate independents won’t vote in 2014. I hope you are educating your friends and encouraging them to vote
    ^
Whenever a person asks me on the phone or at the sales counter if there’s anything else they can do for me I always say the same thing.
    “Don’t forget to vote”
    Respectful communication can accomplish much.
    Respectfully,
    and blame free

I thought the R’s were going to try to be more inclusive and reach out to places that were not in the classic Southern Strategy. Has that changed?

    @David

    Thank you David,
I found verification on Mr. Stewart’s story from several other sources, but they did not mention the names of the systems. Thank you for supplying that.
Many of our fellow commentators consider The Daily Show to be nothing more but liberal propaganda comedy so I try not to use the show as a reference point if I can avoid it. The liberals here are quick to point out when conservatives use FOX or National Review as a source so I try to make sure I can cite more than one source.
I do appreciate you suppling the names of the systems as it will allow interested parties to research our claims.
    Gratefully,
    C.

Didn’t know Reagan was a lefty (he granted amnesty to illegal aliens to work in this country).

I will miss Jon Stewart when he takes 12 weeks off to direct a movie and John Oliver will fill in.
