The Fed Chairman said this meltdown/slipping into recession started 18 months ago.

I have the patience of a chipmunk on amphetamines, but after years of Reagan, Bush, 41 AND 43, screwing things up, I’m amazed that the “anxious” don’t even recognize who caused the problem, and that Greenspan et al gave them more than enough rope to hang us.

It isn’t the length of time it is taking…it’s the steps he’s taking to attempt to fix it that are concerning
danielsangeo said, 8 months ago
etocme: At least he’s taking steps, whether you agree with them or not, as opposed to those in the “Fundamentals of our economy are strong” camp.
churchillwasright said, 8 months ago
Err… two weeks ago a woman on Oboma’s economic team said “The fundamentals of the economy are strong”. Don’t remember her name or title, but she was on Fox Sunday this weekend.

Fox News - that’s credible (hmmm)
danielsangeo said, 8 months ago
And I can’t find a single reference, Fox News or otherwise, where anyone on the Obama team said that the “fundamentals of the economy are strong”.
Churchill, do you have a citation for your assertion?
churchillwasright said, 8 months ago
It took me one second to find the quote, and the top link was from the Huffington Post,of all places.
From 3/15: The economy is fundamentally sound despite the temporary “mess” it’s in, the White House said Sunday… that optimistic message came from economic adviser Christina Romer. When asked during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” if the fundamentals of the economy were sound, she replied: “Of course they are sound.”

And I didn’t say that she said it on Fox, I said that the same woman (Christina Romer) was on there this past Sunday.
danielsangeo said, 8 months ago
So, churchill, I’m still waiting for you to post a link to where someone on the Obama team said that the fundamentals of the economy were strong.
churchillwasright said, 8 months ago
its there– aren’t you seeing it?

In the future, for those who care - if your link doesn’t turn green (hypertext) all the way; you don’t have a link. Something about the gocomics software not reading underscores? -they need to be set off with a back-slash.

thingey pup, but google reference is spot on.
danielsangeo said, 8 months ago
All I can find is that someone on the Obama team said that the fundamentals were “sound”, but not “strong”.
Hint: There’s a difference, which I’m sure those on the far right refuse to even try to understand:
You can have a weak economy while still have sound fundamentals. Our fundamentals (workers, plan for infrastructure, etc) are sound, but they are not strong. Not yet. We’ll get there.
churchillwasright said, 8 months ago
Your nitpicking. If McCain had said they were “sound”, you would have been harping on that the same way for the last 5 months and you know it!

churchie, go to yor own post, then google the reference given and read the “whole” aticle. You’re the one who’s cherry picking. The aid did initially stick her foot in her mouth and was called on it. Funny how you stopped reading there instead of further on how she clarified herself.
churchillwasright said, 8 months ago
Hey, I just said that she said it. I didn’t say that I agreed with her _or_ McCain.
And the media didn’t ask McCain to clarify, they just pounced on it as “out of touch”.
danielsangeo said, 8 months ago
“Your nitpicking. If McCain had said they were “sound”, you would have been harping on that the same way for the last 5 months and you know it!”
Have you seen the movie “Money Pit” with Tom Hanks? The house was in terrible shape, but the foundation was good so they were able to fix everything.
McCain would’ve said that it’s a strong house (while the stairs are falling off the landing, the bathtub spewing raw sewage, and the chimney collapsing in on itself).
On the other hand, Obama acknowledges all these faults and he also acknowledges that the foundation is sound.
But, I do thank you for attempting to read my mind when you don’t even know anything about me.
Oh, and one more thing: Words mean things. Your inability to differentiate words in English is not the Obama Administration’s fault. But I’ll try to help you out:
In terms of economy:
strong: characterized by steady or advancing prices; thriving
sound: characterized by or showing common sense and good judgment; trustworthy
You can be trustworthy, but not thriving. You can be sound but weak. Bush left us with an economy where the fundamentals were weak (that’s why we pounced on him for claiming they were strong), but the fundamentals were ALWAYS sound.
Do you understand? If not, you refuse to. I don’t see a need to further explain.
danielsangeo said, 8 months ago
“The fundamentals of the economy were still strong when McCain said that.”
No. It wasn’t.

Dred, I need a bit more info. It is true that most mortgages are being paid, but doesn’t the individual borrowing on the presumed appreciation of real estate also have a effect on the situation?
