A student of politics and a sharp observer of everyday life, Borgman comments on topics ranging from economic policy and war in Iraq to teenage ennui and suburban sprawl. His cartoons convey opinions that are honestly felt and carefully considered, not inflated with hyperbole meant to shout down the opposition and muddy his message. Most of all, he practices his markmanship with such apparent artistic ease and humor that his aim is never off, never deflected by clumsy delivery or vague imagery.

Karl Marx was correct, when he said that you could sell, to the people, the rope that you are going to hang them with.

“Un cochon dans un sac” (A pig in a bag) is an old expression old folks have up here. I didn’t know you had it in the States.
lalas said, about 1 year ago
CF – it’s “pig in a poke” like in the ‘toon.

perhaps the acadian version is an attemted translation
motivemagus said, about 1 year ago
Possibly. “Poke” is bag, in case people didn’t know that.

Think here are several versions. My grandmother, born 1894 in North Louisiana, frequently used “pig in a tote”. It was used to express trusting a seller in a purchase of something unseen or untried.

Bush introduced the Iraq War push just before 2002 election forcing congress to agree, and the Patriot Act and Medicare Bills close to elections. Now the Bailout for Predatory Capitalists who again have socialize the cost of their mistakes and they will again privatize profits just like the War Industry and many corporations who would not survive without the subsidies from government.
