“We’re not going to be disrespected. We have to get something out of this (government shut down). And I don’t know what that even is.” So says Rep. Marlin Stutzman, RepubliCon of Indiana. I’ve got a good idea what they’re going to get: see that fat guy lying in the middle of Holbert’s Vulture Street, decked out in red white and blue? That’s not OUR Uncle Sam. That’s YOUR Murdoch RepubliCon Party.

Recent GOP comments blame the shutdown on Dems and Obama, not to mention commentators here, yet in 2010, there is video of Republicans promising to shut down the gov’t. A group of Republican signed a document just a few weeks ago promising to shut down the gov’t if the ACA wasn’t defunded. And there are ample examples of GOP house members saying how happy they are this is happening, until it did.
Now, they claim they’ve been trying to prevent this all along. They are picking and choosing what gov’t functions they are willing to open up in order to A- make the dems look bad, and B- cut the agencies they don’t like by whittling them away.
It was wrong to shut down the gov’t in the first place, and now, having jumped off this cliff, they are trying to find a way to make it look as if they were pushed.
The Dems have done a lot of stupid things over the last 5 years, and the President has failed to lead as he I would have like to see… however… the extremists in the GOP do not even LIKE the gov’t and are so secure in their gerrymandered districts they do not fear consequences for the damage they are doing to our nation. If they do the same thing when the budget is “negotiated” in less than 10 weeks, they will do even more damage, and not only to the USA, but to the world. Over the next 8 years, we will have had to pay 200 million dollars in interest because of the loss of our triple A rating last time.
The buzzards in the cartoon don’t even pretend to be there to help. They WANT to see the nation turned into something other than “Uncle Sam” who was supposed to be that loving Uncle who makes his nephews and nieces happy and gives them good advice. I don’t think the American people will be happy with what replaces him if he dies.
    Respectfully,
    C.

Ansonia, one cannot learn anything from people that agree with what they already believe. One has to listen to those with whom they disagree in order to have a more open mind. Thomas Jefferson said that we needed to give voice to all people, even those who would tear down our Constitution and our democracy if for no other reason but to know what they are saying. If you drive people into only whispering, then you learn nothing.
A majority of people do not want Obamacare. That is correct. But if you ask how many want the affordable care act, that number changes drastically.
The GOP is trying to fund only those things they want, mostly things their bases want, as a way to perform a strange line item veto on all the parts of gov’t they dislike.
As far as what the extremists on the right want, there is ample video of it coming from their own mouths. There are members of that subset of republicans who are as narrow minded in their beliefs as Taliban is in theirs. They hate gov’t and believe they know the only way the nation should be ruled, not led, ruled.
And the tea party people I know are more libertarian than extremists.
I wish we could talk in real time. But realize that I use Fox news sites as often as I can, and failing to find what I’m looking for there, I use other sites from newspapers in effected areas or sites that are generally considered objective. I would not use MSNBC, except as a last choice, as a source because I would get comments just like the one you gave me.
How much research do you put into your posts?
    Curiously,
    C.

“Hey us American are footing 75% of that bill under Obamacare. Why? because they cried and complained that they could not afford it That Obamacare would be to much a burden to them. So there you go, the vultures from the death panels that they claimed were not there.”
    ^
    “us American” Nice, Harley.
    ^
us American. Not like, you know, those people. ‘Cause, you know, _they’re_ not American. Not like us.

I’m sorry, Jack. I don’t understand. I haven’t responded to Harley. Now that I read it again, I still don’t know how to reply to him. He seems to be saying that the Republicans said they would do this and the limits to which they would negotiate and I agree with that. The GOP has formed its wall and Speaker Boehnor will not allow a vote because he fears the republicans who say they would support opening the gov’t.
However, it wasn’t Mr. Obama who closed down parks and monuments. It was those who would refused to pass a bill that 100% of Senators, even Mr. Cruz, sent to the House.
Perhaps you can explain, since I truly don’t understand.

Richard Pryor had a great line about a man caught in an indiscretion by his wife.
“Are you going to believe me, or your lyin’ eyes?”
I choose to believe my eyes, and my sources, since there are five sources including video tape quoting republicans.
    ^
On a separate note… has anyone seen PAJ lately? I’ve not seen any comments by him and I’m wondering if GC has vanished him. If he is reading this, I would like to him to know I look forward to his return.
I can’t say that about every person with whom I have disagreements… Harley.
You have a right to your opinion, but not your facts.
    Argumentatively,
    C.

Can you provide sources other than Fox? I don’t use MSNBC because conservatives don’t trust them. And hearing Fox’s slant over the last few days has given me no reason to trust them. Fox passes out gas for the fire to its listeners just as Ed, Bashir, and Sharpeton do on MSNBC.
I do not trust your source, Harley. And the parks would not be closed if the HoR had passed the law signed by 100% of the Senate.
Restarting the gov’t by only offering the agencies and departments the GOP want restarted is disingenuous. So are the arguments of the GOP and the media voices who make their money encouraging these tactics dividing and weakening this nation.
    Respectfully,
    C.
