So Holbert is in favor of reasonable, low-cost financing for college and university educations? Seems a cryptic way of saying so.

It’s not the SIZE of Congress holding up that particular stagecoach, Jerry; it’s the inclination of OB-GYN-GOP Tea Partiers.

As history judges the members of this years senators and congressmen, they may all WANT to wear masks.
I know that many corporations who receive subsidies from gov’t also use the presence of that money when they donate to those running for office. Congress gives our money to people who will give our money back to election campaigns. Do colleges also donate to candidates, or is it just those running the colleges who donate?
Our nation has a deficit of people qualified for the high tech manufacturing jobs necessary to reestablish our middle class, revitalize the tax base, and keep our nation ahead of those who would supersede or dominate us financially or militarily. We need inspired young people who want to go to college and serve their communities as they advance their lives. A nation that treats young people like this Congress is doing invites those young people to have no loyalty to nation and no faith in gov’t.
Congress has once again failed those they are supposed to serve by failing to be civil, respectful, or bipartisan. They hope use this topic to point fingers at each other in the next elections but we, the people, have no real choices who are objective and long sighted people. Congress would be better represented as those against the Lone Ranger would stand in defense of good people who just want to be happy and secure with hopes their children will have better lives than their own.
Congress is very ‘tonto’(spanish for dummy/lazy)

A report credited to the Congressional Research Service states that Bank profits over the last few years have been by borrowing money from the gov’t at very low rates while loaning the money back to the gov’t at higher rates. I found many websites that confirmed this, but I do not know which of them were acceptable to the majority of our readers here. However, this link from FOX news should give those who most oft disagree with me cause to think my statement valid.
The American people may have spent too much money, but the ones who are supposed to protect the American people are the ones putting the economy of our nation, and our international partners, at risk.
There are committees in both houses tasked with the duty to supervise and regulate these institutions that are “too big to fail” and “too big to prosecute”, but they don’t. Rather than conduct the people’s business in an objective, civil, and respectful manner, our cannibalistic oligarchy puts students, workers, and small businesses at risk by not doing their jobs.

We have GOT to start reining in our out of control government spending deficit …
It is being reined in – unless your only sources of information is right wing media. The GOP, in fact, has had to quietly mute their “spending” mantra to find some other bugaboo to complain about. As for student loans, the GOP has set it up so that private banks assume the profit at no risk, because it is government money that is underwriting the loans. Why the hell should public money be given to bankers so they can screw our youth with debt?
